Default Driveshaft Boot?

I ripped a hole in my front drive shaft boot, so I called the dealer and asked about getting a new book, and they told me that you have to buy a new drive shaft. That you cant just buy a new boot. Does anybody now about this? Any help would be great.

Thanks

Sad but true. I've seen a couple of posts where a few people have had some luck trying to repair the boot. You may even be able to get a semi replacement boot from an autoparts store.
Try a search and you should find some discussions on attempted repairs

A driveline shop can do it. I had mine redone for $11 before tearing it again and biting the bullet for a new shaft. Good luck.

thanks

What can happen if i dont fix it? Thinking of letting it go and when it kills the u-JOINT then buying a longer drive shaft and better u-joints.

The upgraded shafts don't necessarily need to be longer because of the way the JK suspension compresses. That boot just covers the slip yoke, so it could last a long time depending on what type of things it gets exposed to.

Renegade.. Great looking JK by the way. So I see that you have replaced your driveshaft with OEM 1310. Stupid ? but what is a 1310 driveshaft? And where did you buy it from? And one more? what is a slip yoke? Sorry this is my first jeep.

Thanks. The "OEM" part means that it bolts to the factory driveshaft flanges/yokes. The "1310" designates the size of the u-joint that is used. Most aftermarket shafts use either 1310 or the larger 1350 joint. Mine was made by J.E. Reel, but I bought it from another forum member. The slip joint is the point where the front and rear sections of the driveshaft come together, allowing the shaft to "telescope" or change length as the suspension travels throughout it's range.
