Default Driveshaft question

I was under the Jeep today installing my Rockhard evap relocation kit. I checked the front driveshaft and transfer case as I still have the stock shaft in place with my TF 3" kit (which is more like 4" I think). Grease is starting to splatter from the rubber boot closest to the transfer case. It looks like the boot is pulling back (pulling towards rear of Jeep). The metal ring looks like it's moved a little too, allowing the seal to be poor and grease to leak out. Is it time for a new shaft? I don't want to have problems with the joint or have the transfer case blow like I've read in some other threads. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

She's toast. Pick the name brand of your choice and get one asap. Do you mind telling us how many miles you have on the shaft with that lift?

Not even 1000 miles. It's a weekend/night driver. The TF kit is defenately over 3". I wish I would have measured before and after the lift install. I would say it's close to a 4" lift even with my RR bumbers.

T&ERun - Your driveshaft will certainly blow eventually, but your transfer case won’t blow (unless the driveshaft takes it out when it blows) until you install a non-stock shaft. When you get one make sure you set it up right! How’s the back shaft look?

The back shaft looks good. The boots and the metal rings that seal them look fine. I'll being doing some research, but what are the more popular front shafts that guys are using. I was watching Trucks the other day and they were installing Woods shafts on a lifted JKU.

Wow, I've got 8k on my front and she's still going. You could always pick up a used shaft that was taken off. People sell them here quite often.

It's just starting to spit the grease. 30-40 little splatters of grease on the underbody. Is it just because the rubber boot is pulling back some, or is the shaft really at jeapordy? I don't think I really want to find out. I'll probably just go ahead and get a new one ordered. I want to get a good one the first time though and not look back.

Hmmm, well, you do have a bigger lift, but I would think the rear shaft would be giving you the shaft too. Is it possible the front was already damaged before you did the lift? Are you sure it's "new" grease? Did you try cleaning it up and looking for new grease to come out? Is it possible the boot was put on improperly at the factory?

Also, did you get arms with your kit? If so, are they adjusted properly?

Are you still under warranty, and would dealer give you a new shaft for free? If so, then you could try a new stock one and if goes out again in 1,000 miles then you know that you have to take a different approach (new aftermarket shaft and/or adjust your angles).

I believe it's new grease. Never noticed it before. I'll clean it up though and drive it and see. I did get lower arms. I have them adjusted for about 6 degrees caster (or camber-can never get those two terms right).
