Duplicolor Truck Bed liner info/help
Hi guys wanted to get some feed back on the bedliner that some of you have used and I am going to use in the next few hours. Some members have sprayed their hardtop interior with the duplicolor truck bed liner and it looks awesome. I have decided to do the same. My question is how did everyone do it meaning did you all use the spray can or did some roll it on or the spray gun ? The reason I ask is because I just dropped off the hard top to my local autobody shop to do the work for me, I waited too long to do this project myself and I am anxious to have done already. I saw on the duplicolor website about the multiple methods of application and I wanted to get some feedback on your experience. The quart of this stuff costs me 19.00 and 7 cans cost me 70.00 plus tax. I know some have gotten this stuff through online stores but since I don't want to wait till they get here the 19.00 does sound nice and getting it done by the shop is even better so I don't have to go out and buy all the masking materials and clear out my garage so I don't over spray all the other toys in my garage. I would like to hear what you guys have to say.
I posted everything in this thread along with a bunch of pics. The magic happens starting on page 2....

I have seen your pic of your rig when you posted and is one of the reasons why I wanted to do this project, my only thing is now is should I use the duplicolor bedliner or should I just have the auto body shop just paint it a flat black and if it is going to be strong enough for scratches ya know ? I am looking at the part from the passenger side of your rig that looks a little blotchy because you didn't have your spray handle or is it just the flash ? Also if I were still going to use the duplicolor bedliner I am going in the direction of using the spray gun how much paint would I need ? Is a quart enough considering that i have read a few people mention about they used any where from 6-9 cans to do a proper coverage ?
I did my hard top about a month ago and used Rustoleum Bed Liner from Lowes (about $8/can). This stuff is basically the same as the duplicolor. I basically removed everything I could including the rear window and all the latches that secure the top. I sanded the inside with fine sand papaer (220 grit) and cleaned it with mineral spirits. Then I covered everything else I didnt want sprayed with newspaper and masking tape. When you spray the top do VERY light coats. I only waited a few min between coats but did several until I got full coverage. My end result came out pretty good. I will post pics later...
I did a front bumper with results last weekend.

See the following post which will point you to specific comments re roll-on (I suspect if you've searched, you've read these already, but never can tell).

The inside of the JK hard top already has a very nice uniform texture. You do not need to add texture or remove texture by sanding the inside of the top. A bed liner is not necessary either sprayed or rolled, the OEM top texture is sufficient. I just used MEK to clean the inside of the top to remove any mold release, masked the windows and hardware, and sprayed the interior with semi gloss (not flat) spray paint. Looks great!

The great thing about using spray-in bedliner (in a can) is that it is readily available and you can do touch ups yourself. I scratch the heck out of mine taking them off and on....including the underside area that I painted. Have someone professionaly paint the inside and a few scratches will start to show white underneath. Try to touch the paint up yourself and good luck!! I just bust out a $8 can and good as new! So the DIY has a maintinence advantage.
Plan on 4-5 cans for the freedom panels (to make it nice) and another 6-10 for the rest of the hardtop. Not sure how that equates to a bulk container of the stuff but I'm sure a quart wouldn't be enough. As for sanding, I just used a scotch brite pad and some fine paper to rough up some of the smooth areas that you will find about a 1/4 of an inch from the edges in order to make the liner stick better. Once you apply the bedliner then you'll see that the OEM texture gets lost anyways.
Good luck and just do it!!
