I would have to agree with Jay here to a certain point. I do agree with him that there are a lot of threads with people ranting and raving at how well the Duratrac is for snow. I've been around tires, dirt, snow, mud my whole life. They are not going to be leaps and bounds better than other tires out there. When people invest money into something they usually think what they have is great or better. Just look at thousands of threads out there. When someone asks what lift, tire, shock, etc, is better, most will answer with what they have is the way to go. For some reason, many that have the D/Ts say it is the best tire.

However, usually an A/T is going to be better on light snow and ice than a M/T. For that type of traction (not deep snow-a M/T will be better for this) you usually don't want large tread blocks and this is exactly what a M/T has. You would think an A/T would be better. I wasn't there to see Jay's test so I'm not calling him wrong or right. I would love to see a test with the D/T up against a BFG K/O2.

Low void heavily siped as in Blizzak no...that's a SNOW tire.

Muds against normally siped both suck in the snow. ..enjoy those duraslips

I would say a typical a/T would be a bit better on the packed stuff I'd agree

Not the ultra aggressive " a/T's " most guys have on their jeeps.

Which also brings width into play...probably equally as important as tread.

Wide floats.....skinny passenger car at's would be better.

But that's truly apples and oranges.

Why aren't you complaining about your own tires, you have something against D/T? You don't even have first hand experience with them since it was your buddy Jeep that had them and not yours.

BINGO ALICE! Dedicated SNOW tires are required to perform properly in snow. I have BFG KO's in 33" on my jeep...for the summer/fall/spring. Soon as the snow flies, they are off and I have 265 Cooper Winter tires. There is no comparison. MT are the abosolute worst in snow, going then to at, then HT then Snow tires being the best.

Here They should make snow tire mandatory for driving in the winter. All seasons DO NOT MEAN ALL SEASONS. only probably all seasons in florida...sun, cool sun, and intermitant heavy rain.

Spend the extra money and get real snow tires.

I think we all agree snow tires are best for snow.

Somehow, a few got butt hurt that the almighty DT is no better than any other aggressive at or mt type tire, which was the point if my thread. Nothing to do with SNOW tires really.

But, as stated by someone a few posts ago, people like to justify what they spend their money on and think it's the best.

Or, they compare it to a tire they had 5 years ago like they could actually real world gauge it that way.

Either way, this was an informative post about 3 tires in the same situation and environment. They all sucked in the snow of any type. Admittedly it was also meant to call BS on so many of these fan boy posts about those tires.

I think more people should speak up about actual and factual experience....not self-ego stroking fan boy nonsense be it tires, lifts, led's etc..

Sounds like you all can't drive in snow or you all have crappy tires, I don't get the point of singling out one brand of tire other than you don't have them and are jealous of the friend that does.
The test was pointless and is only used to confirm so made up gripe you have about the tire.

Let me help you....if your jeep had say... MTs and you took off from a dead stop in packed snow on the street it would spin all over the place. Stop your jeep, swap on some Duratrac's and do the same exact thing and you will spin all over the place. Point is, you will still have NO traction difference in that same exact situation.

To reiterate. ..I did nearly the exact same thing in packed snow, deep snow, and some slushy shit last night. Both jeeps had no traction hardly and we're fishtailing equally all over the place.

Maybe you need to turn down the boost a bit lol. Every winter I put on my duratracs and its very noticeable. It goes from fishtailing and having to drive in 4wd to simply driving around in 2wd. From a dead stop my duratracs don't make me go all over the place. Do you just floor it from every red light?
