Emergency brakes
My tracing down a loud rear brake squeal. New thermo quiet pads along with new rotors. Squeal,is still there. About to lose my mind. A few people have suggested the emergency brakes could be the culprit. Anyone had this same problem? Been doing a little reading and seems like I have to remove the axle shaft to replace the shoes. Is that the only way??

I had a on again off again squeak in the rear that happened at low speeds in traffic.
After a bit of driving one wheel was hot to the touch
Turns out my e brake was not releasing 100% on the passenger side. With e brake lever in the down position in the cab the driver rear rotor came off easy passenger not so much.
Once off follow the e brake cable from the back into the rotor assembly you will see a mechanical pull..... My was seized hit it. Pb blaster all good.
Can't see the need to pull the axle for new e shoes.
Also check the break pad tabs where the slide on the calipers. Little bit of silicon cal lube makes them quite.
Hope this helps

Hope my fix is as easy as hitting it with some on PB Blast. I've changed 3 different set of pads bc dealer kept saying the squeal was due to using after market pads. No dice. I have an auto so I never use the parking brake but it's my last resort to find this annoying sound. Thanks for your input

Ah ok if you don't use the e brake too much then for sure look into the little tabs on each break pad top and bottom. They seat into a retainer clip (replaceable) on the calliper themselves.
They dry up quick and they you have metal on metal. Once I lube mine I'm good for 15,000KM then that friggin squeak comes back at light touch on the breaks in traffic.
I have upgraded my rears to Power Stop slotted and drilled rotors and their pads. $250 out the door at 4WP...very happy with them. But I spend the $25 bucks and get new calliper clips each time I do breaks. Will see if I can scoop a picture...worth more then words.
While you are in there never hurts to check the lube on the calliper pins and hit the backs sides of each pad with lube too.
Best of luck finding the little bugger
