Default Engine Pre-start Lubers

Hi! Has anyone installed a pre-lube system? The prices are reasonably close between the solinoid and pump-motor types. The solinoid type is follows the "KISS" principal but appears to be a "one shot" system while the pump - motor system seems to offer a bit longer injection time but in turn has more "moving parts" that may be prone to earlier failure. I'm just attempting to get some reviews from anyone with experience with these systems. Thanks... Mike

I had a buddy who had an engineer working for him who put a pre-oiler on his Volvo. Last I heard (before my buddy passd away) the thing was at close to 500k and running great. I understand the one he had did post-oiling too.

They both worked at power generating plants and my buddy told me that after rebuilding a generator before they spun it up to speed they put a "jacking" oil pump on line to circulate oil to all the bearings.

Personally I really wouldn't worry about it in a stock or slightly modified stature as the preoiler will tend to save the engine with a more modified aspect as like adding the RIPP mod to it then I would consider installing some type of an oil pump on it. Poper maintenance on a vehicle will allow your engine to run for 500K Plus miles. I do notice there are peole who negelct thier vehicles by forgetting to get the fluids changed or checked and whatnot. It goes back to how long can I run the oil in my auto with out having to change the oil or filter and all those other questions pertaining to that, the Larger racing engines or more High HP engines do run an preoiler such as the drag racing, stockcars, and along those lines. Is it a great mod for the engine Yes, in the long run will you get more miliage out of your engine maybe but only if it taken care of. When I was building an engine for my old 65 Chevy Pikup in highschool I was wanting to add one to it because I thought it was cool, and being the Start up wears your engine out more than taking it down the highway at cruising speeds for long times I still thought it was cool. Flip a toggle Switch and hear a little buzzing noise and then start it right up. Will I get one on my JK not really because hey I do high the LT Warranty on it and I do take care of my baby even when Im not home my buddy will take care of changing the oils. I add Lucas so that give me a piece of mind. When I start her I let her idle for about a minute then I go where I need to. I don't know how much they cost cause I never really had an intrest after getting more hands on knowledge about other precautions to do to avoid spending extra on stuff that may fail, some ways if they fail I can blame me and not a part. Besides what will DC say if you have a blown engine down the road? Hmm looks like you have a thinggy that circulates the Oil, Yep thats the part that caused your engine to blow I think it wasn't getting enough pressure at the pump or lowered the level to much and was sucking air creating heat pockets and Poof it ceased upo. Sorry but thats not covered Have a good day thank you come again. but Who knows that is worst case senario. AND wow I just realized I wrote a freaking Novel sorry for boring you all, its just been awhile since I have been on here LOL.. If you want it Get it..

Hi! Thanks cool Mutt. I am a fanatic about preventative maintenance. SARA (my JK) is at the dealership about once per month for LOF and whatever else (diff lube. etc). I use Mobil 1 and a Mopar filter, fully synthetic diff lube and all installed by the dealer service dept. 3000 mile schedule in winter / 6000 mile schedule during the more temperate months. Just kicking around "toys" for SARA. Have an engine block heater and CTEK "Smart Charger / Maintainer for the battery. Always like to get opinions before spending $$ needlessly. Take care... Mike

A pre-luber on a mini van engine certainly not worth the effort or money. I debated installing one on my modified boat engines, but decided aganist it for various reasons.

Mutt makes some good points about what a dealer might say. And the more opinionated members of this forum will undoubtedly determine this is overkill+ ... but sometimes you just gotta do it.
This is a 12v marine gear pump designed for pumping lubricating oil. It has custom bits such as Earl's AN fittings and lines, a check valve, an oil filter sandwich, and a Fumoto F106 drain valve with a custom Tee from the sump. Everything can be unbolted and returned to stock in about 30 minutes.

I've seen Volvo 240's without pre-oilers going 500k.

I'm wondering how the rest of my Jeep will look at even 350k miles, after a life of off-roading and driving on salted roads. At 500k, I'll probably be able to see the pavement under my feet!

I have to say that for ME a pre-luber is rare, but is very worth it. I NEVER have to hear that "haven't been started in a while" lifter-clatter anymore. My pre-luber is set up with a remote control key fob, and I enjoy a quiet start up with full oil pressure at turn of the starter, every time. My camshaft likes it too. My 3.8 and I enjoy a wonderful relationship in spite of what everyone likes to report as a hack mini-van motor. A little extra breathing with a supercharger is in the near future, and she'll be my Eliza Doolittle. Look it up kiddos.

I am a retired Navy engineer and still work in ship maintenance. Pre-lube pumps are used on any engine where you expect to start it and run it quickly up to operating speed, such as a ship's service or emergency generator. Emergency diesel generators typically go from cold to full load in about ten seconds. It is pretty important to run the pre-lube pumps periodically to ensure the system is full of oil and ready to to.
Would it hurt your car? I really doubt it. I should help prevent some wear.
I know diesel guys circulate their oil through added filters. that seems like a good idea too.
