Default ESP Problems/Fixes

So after many hours of wondering threw posts and talking to Jeep I still haven't truly figured out a way to make the ESP work properly. Worked fine with the stock lift but as soon as I raised my Jeep 3 inches and added 35 inch tires the ESP would come on when going around simple turns at around 25MPH.

Granted this really isn't much of a problem because disabling it was easy enough. Now that this has been done 8 months ago the "ding" of the ESPDISABLED is starting to really annoy me when starting up the Jeep. Not to mention the fact that I would love that dash icon to just go away. The best thing I have heard so far was someone say "I dont need a babysitter when I drive" and I believe that to be true. But, It would be nice to have it work properly with 35's when you want it and turn it off when you dont (installing a kill switch).

Guess my question here is, has anyone figured out a way to fix the ESP to make it work properly (ie. reprograming, adjusting, ect...)?

This is to say that the lift was installed properly, the tires are properly inflated and the alignment is correct.

I know there are a few posts on here about this so really I apologize for rehashing this subject. Was just hoping that someone out there has figured out some NEW way to fix it.

Thanks guy's for being patient with this newb

What is your front caster angle? I had issues with ESP until I got adjusted lower control arms and set caster over 5 degrees.

Not sure what my front caster is set to but I do have adjustable control arms. Thats something thats deff worth looking into. Did that completely fix your ESP problem.

I had ESP issues around corners, more frequently left corners. I made a few adjustments to the front trackbar to get the front axle exactly centered and used the ProCal to set the steering perfect and the ESP came on less frequently, but still happened on highway exit ramps. Once I adjusted the caster to my current 6 degrees I have not had any ESP issues since (well once or twice, but I deserved it for taking a corner too fast).

Good advice so far

check to make your your steering wheel is center and see what your caster is, If its to little it make the steering flighty and definetly set off the ESP.

Double check to make sure the axles are centered as well.

Just checked and not sure why I thought I had adjustable control arms but I dont. What is the caster set at with your premium lift kit? Is there a way the caster can still be adjusted? My steering is deff flighty when I get up to freeway speeds.

Typically without adjustable uppers or lowers you can't change the caster. I have seen most people without adjustable arms and a 2.5" lift are down around 2 degrees. The adjustable lowers are a great investment and very easy install. I run TeraFlex arms which I got for about $300 and can tweak my caster with a 5 minute adjustment. This also lets you adjust your alignment if you knock it out wheeling.

Not sure why with the high cost of a lift kit and (maybe) knowing that the caster degree is a problem with Jeeps and ESP, why the control arms arent just set to the proper degree. Would seem like thats just common sense. Going to look into investing in adj control arms and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks a ton for all the information.

I have a 08, and when I got the flash for the overheating trans light, I also came with the ESP turn on/off instructions. Seening that yours is a 2010, you should have it in your book. There is a warning that states that large tires and ESP do not match well and then gives the procedures to turn off ESP. Check our your book, there are all sorts of warnings, but it also has the procedures on how to turn off the ESP.

I am not saying NOT to check your stuff and maybe go with adj arms. Just saying there is an issue with large tiers and ESP.

slow down for a minute, Lets double check and make sure you have the premium lift, before you said it was the ultimate in your signature. We have different lift combo's. the premium is a budget solution for those not wanting to spend the money on the Ultimate kit thats fully adjustable. We now have the premium plus with adjustable control arms. Your issue is your steering wheel isnt centered. The caster is at least 5 degrees with the premium lift

is this your kit?
