Lots have, but not intentionally

If you want to pass any sort of clean air test you will need it.

Here in Ontario they require it every so often when you register your vehicle.

The computer would know it is not working. It tests it once in a while. It would throw a light. Hell, it knows when you don't install the gas cap correctly!

My problem is I've already moved it with Woods' kit, but the new location is not good for the lift I want (RK LongArm with the rear cradle). And I can't move it back, because I had to cut the mounting bracket (according to Woods' instructions).

There is probably a way to fool the computer. I'm guessing it has some kind of sensor hooked up to it that detects the presense of gasoline vapor. Never took a close look at one yet but I'm sure its possible. Why doesn't someone just rip it all out and let us know how it goes? Heh Heh...

Also copied and pasted this from a Taco website:

"The charcoal canister holds the gas tank vacuum/pressure to prevent the tank from collapsing in on its self. The gases in the tank expand and contract as the tempature decreases and increases. the reason it gets hooked to the manifold is for start ups. when you crank the motor it releases those fumes in the canister into the intake and helps for easier start ups. the only problem i see putting a breather filter on the end on the line from the tank is moisture. with the tank being cool and the engine bay being warm, wont it create moisture in the line taht might get into your fuel."

Maybe its a good idea to leave it on...

You could probably sell the kit and ask the buyer to swap the mounts with you. If you know someone local I'm sure they would do it.

I don't buy that explanation. ...and with your experience, you shouldn't either. If that's true, then think about this....What about the millions of vehicles made before all this hoorah that didn't have charcoal canisters at all? Their gas tanks are fine, and a lot of them had closed, non-vented systems. My understanding of the charcoal canister when they first appeared in mass, was that their reason was soley to keep gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. Period. Now, all my info here could be way off base.....I've never really given a damn enough about the charcoal canister to research it. LOL. But it just doesn't make sense that the gas tank implosion theory is right, since millions of vehicles were made without the canisters. I wonder though, if it could be removed, and a vented gas cap put on? That would allow atmosphere to enter if needed, and pressure to escape. Essentially, functioning the same as you described. Might be worth a try, don't you think?
