I want to swap out my stock muffler.
Anyone have a suggestion on what is the best muffler to increase horse power???
Can I find something good for $300 or less???

your not gonna get to much out of just a muffler. Check out what I did custom flowmaster, i could feel a little bit of pick up, and it makes the JK sound really nice. But dont expect to get to much gain.

Do a search..plenty of info on this topic...There was a thread that even had dyno tests with different brands...if i recall correctly the magna flow cat back was the best...The Gibson dual exahust was actually a dissapointment...

For about three and a half C-notes, you can get the Banks Monster Exhaust catback system. I'm very pleased with it thus far. I've had it on my Jeep for about a month. The exhaust note is clean and not too distorted, and it gives you a few extra ponies. Overall, a pretty good system. I plan on pairing this up with the Banks Torque Tube headers in a few months.

I have a 4 door and made my own system last year for half the price of most kits
$ 65 for a stainless Magnaflow muffler off ebay
$ 5 for two muffler clamps
$ 0 cut out the only factory smashed section by the swaybar
$ 70 for a muffler shop to make a new tail pipe from the axle back
$140 total for a complete 2 1/2" stainless system
It only took an hour at the most to remove the stock muffler, cut a section out of the pipe under the driver side, and slip in the new muffler.
I even reinstalled the muffler heat shield above the new muffler.

I just did this yesterday....
....bought a stainless Magnaflow muffler off of Ebay (92$)....and went to a near-by pep-boys and bought 4 clamps and a 2 1/2" pipe coupler.
The install was extremely easy....cut out the piece under the driverside (sawzall) and slid the new muffler in and clamped it down.
Cut off the old muffler and remove it from the hangers....and used the coupler and two more clamps to install the cut out piece and use it as a new tailpipe
took about 45 minutes total, and I'm happy w/ the sub-$100 price tag and result
