Default Extra lighting - any problems doing this?

Hi all

Rather than upgrade my current bulbs in my headlights, I want to get a set of windshield mounted lights that will come on when high beam is on and was originally looking at the Mopar Hella off road lights but don't like the way they look without the guards and cannot find any stone guards for them. If I was then to go and buy some KC Slimlite driving lights would I have problems wiring them into high beam?

In terms of fitting, how difficult is it to mount the lights, pass the wires through body and connect as no one has yet done this in the UK and unsure whether to tackle myself or take to my garage guy?

Cheers

Nick

Don't forget to check your local legislation if you plan to use them on highway. You become an easy target if you have mis-placed lighting.

Talking Some Ideas.

Why do yo want them with your highbeams? I have them wired seperatly, so I can use my highbeams during normal dark, but I can turn my KC on anytime I like.

Are you getting KC driving or longrange lights? If you have the long range like I do, they put out crazy light that I only use when I am off-road or on barely used dirt roads. They would seriously blind someone if you hit them with the long range.

Another bit of info, if you put driving lights on your windshield, I'm pretty sure there would be a lot of glare from the hood.

What front bumper do you have? If you do go with the long range I would mount them low, like on your bumper and aim them straight ahead, or very slightly down, for on road driving.

Some locations (like NYS for example) REQUIRE the lights to only function with the highbeams. Fogs only on low, driving or spot only with highbeams. but that varies by location. My a-pillar lights are wired to only have power when the highbeams are on (they are switched so i can flip them off if i want to though)

Not that i would put a seperate and obscure momentary pushbutton in there to overide that switch and relay so that the finger of God would reach out and blind some poor bastard who hibeams me or anything of the sort, nope, i certainly wouldnt do that...

Long range spots work fine on the A-pillars. I dont get any glare from my 8" ones.
Driving beam pattern might cause some though? Havent tried those.

I saw a set of anti-glare attachments, like spoon shaped extensions that just beneath the lights, to help avoid glare onto the hood, etc.

I have 3 KC's on my bumper and have them come on with my highbeams. I tried the switch - did not like it that way. On with the highbeams you never have to take and search for the switch in the dark.

Jeep blinders. Not as scary as beer goggles.

KC makes 'em. I have seen them in the catalog, no clue if they are nec, or if they would really work.

That way you can have just your high beams on (no windshield lights), or flip the toggle and you have the high beams plus windshield lights. And if you just plain wanted those windshield lights on anytime your high beams are on, just leave the toggle in the "on" position all the time.
Wouldnt this require two relays in series? This is basically what I want, but I cant seem to find a wiring diagram that would make this configuration work? Anyone done it successfully?
