F9 vs pro rock
Good info here!
I have been looking at both for later this year and I think the PR44 is the best for my needs. A fabricated 9" look pretty awesome but it is either a Hi-9 or you end up with ford 8.8 gears and lose the 3rd bearing in the third member ( I believe).
The PR44 has been proven time and time again with 37's.

I will be installing my prorock next month but I can tell you this so far.
I wanted a heavy duty, rock solid, new axle housing, and not a used junk yard axle housing. I felt like if I was gonna drop 20k on a jeep why would I put a junk yard take off axle as the main drivetrain component. I wanted a direct bolt on replacement to my d30.
I can tell you that this housing is built with extreme care and is high quality. The welds look great, the C's are MASSIVE, the tubes are thicker then I ever imagined, the pumpkin is reinforced and stout. I do not regret spending the extra cash for the prorock 44. I'd do it again in a second no question about it.

A lot of great info here, thank you guys.. In a good, better, best scenario, all the info here points to the F9 being the good axle, with the pr44 being better, and pr60 beiung the best.. But here's my dilemma, I don't do any rock crawling because I just don't enjoy it.. My rig will be seeing a lot of higher speed back country trails, I'm also running 40's as well.. So the axle's will not be getting smashed into rocks so clearance and housing strength (for with standing hits) isn't the biggest concern for me.. I want an axle that is stout, has the biggest selection of gear sets (gears in the 6's would be great) and an axle that would take a high hp motor down the road.. The latter is what pointed me towards the 9" setup.. With this specific application, do you guys believe that PR (or trail series for that matter) is still the better choice?
As a side note a lot of the KOH buggies are starting to run Trophy Truck ring and pinion, a 10" gear set.
A built Ford 9" with a true hi 9 3rd member is supposedly the best front axle for wheeling (from what i hear). It's what all the hi dollar buggies run on koh. Hope you have deep pockets though. Go to true hi 9's website to see the clearance on that thing.
Not speaking from experience, but it's probably worth looking into.

A better gearing solution would be to add a Rubicrawler. It is a 2.72 ratio. If you paired that with 3.73 axle gears then you would have an equivelant ratio of 6.45 which is in your goal range I think.
