Default Fabricating a bumper/Coating options?

I plan on fabbing up a bumper this week. It will be full steel. I want to use rattle can truck bed liner to coat it. I dont want it rusting in 5 minutes though. Any tips on how to pre treat it prior to the bed liner going on?
thanks guys

Wipe it down really good with acetone and the spray on liner, paint, etc.. will adhere much better. My .02

a cheap way is to just rattle can it with primer. but wipe it down with surface cleaner prior. you can get this at many auto stores. this will get oil, grease and dirt. after doing that wear rubber gloves to keep the oils from you skin off the surface of the metal. then scuff with to give the primer some tooth so the liner will adhear to. if you want something to a little better coat the bumper in a rust converter if your not in a rush. then scuff that before coating with the liner.

just saw your question on scuffing. just get a green scotts brite pad from an auto supply store. since your using a truck bed coating you dont have to be concerned with it being smooth.

I've used those before to scuff up bare metal and they work great, but, thwy can leave little pieces, so make sure to clean it real well after you scuff it up.

you want to buy a "self etching primer". Then apply your coating. Dupli color makes a nice bed liner app.. in a spray can. I use them a lot.

Yea, but it tastes sooo good! Honestly everytime I've used the spray on liner I never scuffed it, just wiped down with acetone and it's always come out nice and have not had any peeling issues. (although I guess it couldn't hurt )

I second the use of Dupli-color spray can bedliner, great stuff.
