Default To paint...or not to paint....

Thinking about spraying my rims. Powder coating is too expensive and time consuming for me. I might wait until it warms up and shoot them with some self- etching primer, and then VHT wheel paint in satin black.

Just wondering what everyone else thought before I pulled the trigger.

Here's a couple pics. The second one is Photoshopped, obviously.

I think it looks cool, a few others have already done it to their stock Moabs. I would just make sure however you did it would hold up decent and not look lame after a few weeks of weather and wheeling.

IMO, I wouldnt paint those wheels, especially if you plan on painting over the stock finish. If you wheel it, they will get scuffed up and probably even scratch through to the stock finish.

I have Pro Comp wheels that are black powder coated and they hold up pretty good. They are scuffed up some, but not scratched through.

So IMO, if you do want to make those wheels black, at least get them blasted and powder coated, that should hold up better then any paint over the stock finish, but even the powder coat will get scuffed up if you wheel it, so be prepared

It's going to suck to deal with if they are painted. Every time you get your wheels balanced the weights will tear it up. Every time you go wheeling it will get messed up. etc.. does look cool. I'd buy black rims if you want black rims.

i don't know the going price for powdercoating, but i know a guy that does it and he told me he could do it for about 125 a rim in any color. even candies... i have seen a few of what he has done, they look good. he did his harley rims with a silver and then clear coated them, they look good.

just adding what i can. he can do just about anything. so if anyone is interested, let me know. i can let you know who he is. possibly if given enough work he would do stuff cheaper.
