Default Factory Limits Torque in 1st and 2nd

I have a M6 California emmisions JK with stock engine and trans.

The factory calibration is greatly limiting torque (not fully opening the throttle at low to mid rpm) in 1st and 2nd gear. This is not noticable in 3rd gear and above.

As a automotive engineer (not Jeep), I can tell you that this is fairly common, usually to protect a weak transmission.

I am new to this forum.

Could someone direct me to a thread where this has been discussed? It is extremely annoying.

First off welcome to the forums Secondly look above the the upper right part of your post, there is a "Search" button, it's always there. Search these Modified forums and Im sure you'll find answers to many of your questions.

I myself notice the limitations in first and second as well so this is something I would like to look into as well.

Any chance it is to reduce pollution output at WOT?

Not noticeable in 3rd and above due to the dampening effect of the higher gear ratios?

Welcome!

Not sure if you want to talk about it or if you're looking for a fix. The SC Flashpaq will allow you to run at WOT in first and second gear. It's part of their tune which gives you better seat of the pants feel that isn't going to show up on a dyno.

As for a thread where the lack of low gear WOT availability has been discussed, I am unaware of one.

That's a distinct possibility as stock I don't think it will go into open loop in the lower gears. It might also be to protect the engine from running lean when you run through the rpm range quicker.

I wonder if the throttle does open more as the rpm increases in each gear.
An AeroForce gauge would show if it does.

I can give it a go tomorrow, both with and without the Flashpaq.

Monitor the injector pulse width, too.
I'll check it out for the automatic.

Thanks, Everyone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed. I have never driven an auto JK, so I would not be surprised if they are different in this respect.

Yes, that is actually my question - Which tuning products specfically remove the lack of full (electronic) throttle at low-mid rpm in 1st and 2nd.

Are you confident about the SC product. I took a quick look at their site, but didn't see much info. Perhaps I missed a link to more data.

Thanks, again!

I love my SuperChip!

I got it before the 35's and noticed a big change, not so much in power, but in throttle mapping. I just feels better and feels like it down shifts when it should.

Now It does add power as well, but it's a 3.7L Jeep, it's not going to do wonders, but it's enough for me!

So far (15 miles), the 35s, 4.10s and Super chip feels real good, maybe no re-gear for me!
