I had a hawse on my TJ with steel cable... mostly because it came with the winch i baught and my TJ was pretty capable and didn't get stuck too often. When i was the one pulling others out i usually resorted to a tow strap when possible, and when not, i'd orient the jeep in a way so that the cable basically was sticking straight out from the jeep. On my JK, i don't have a winch yet, but when the day comes, i'd really like to run an aluminum hawse with a synthetic line. But if i do run steel winch cable, i'll likely run the roller fairlead as it seems it would be a little easier on the steel cable then a hawse.

Not true. As long as your rollers are new or not damaged, a roller fairlead is just fine with syn line.

Everyone I wheel with in Johnson valley runs syn line and roller fairleads. We've never seen or had a problem with the rollers.

I don't use cable. I really don't think there are any fairleads that are ok for both rope and cable. I choose hawse but just because of looks. These are my favorites.

The best for performance and actually taking care of your rope tho is the roller fairlead with the derlin rollers
