Default Final decision - tires

It comes down to the Cooper STT and the Cepek FCII's.. I've heard phenomenal things about both and both are made in the USA. I'd like to hear some pro's and con's against each other. Not intertested in other tires. The MTR/K and Grabber Red Letter were in the running but the snow abilities of each took them out of the race.. For people that run the FCII's and the STT's I'd like to hear how they are on the road (noise and comfort), the loose sand, and snow.. All I've experienced on a JK is the SRA's and Thornbirds so comparing the tires to these, especially the SRA's for noise and comfort would REALLY help me figure out how it would ride.. Always have my 2 year girl with me so ride is very important to me.. Thanks guys..

Not hijacking, but I too am looking for the same info. My choices are the same 2 tires or the Kelly TSR.

My STT's are great, I have 325/65/18's (34.6x13.5) and I couldnt be happier. The ride is OK for big tires and mine are E rated, but I have nothing to compare too. If you're looking for a good ride, go for a smaller wheel to get a C load tire. They only do OK in snow, but for an M/T they do pretty well. The road noise with a soft top is bearable, but you can definately hear them. I havent taken mine on the beach at all, but I am sure would do well. They do awesome in the mud though and look great!

For those three surfaces the FCIIs work great. I had a set of 35x12.50R17s on my 2010 JK. They rode smoother than any other "off road tire" I have had in decades. The on road ride quality was truly top notch, with no wandering, or following truck ruts. There is some tire noise, but not enough to be objectionable. In sand, aired down to 8 psi, these were the best sand tires I've ever had. I was out exploring one day near the coral pink sand dunes, and came across another Jeeper in a built up YJ. He had at least 6" of lift, aftermarket axles, and 37" tires on his Jeep, and it was obvious that it was very capable. When he saw me in my near stock looking JK he asked how I had come in to that area, and in particular, if I had come up "the sand hill". I am very familiar with the area, and knew which sand hill he was talking about. I told him I had come in that way, but I did not tell him I had climbed the hill in 2WD. I don't think he would have believed me. The tires are awesome in sand. They also work very very good in snow, as good as any AT tire of that width.

I haven't had the STT Coopers, but I would certainly recommend the FCIIs.

STT's. I've had them on two different rigs and they've not let me down on the street, mud, snow or trail. The road noise is relatively quite for a mud tire, they look great and aggressive and are reasonably priced. I wouldn't pick another MT.

Stt's all the way! Fcii will not perform as well, especially in mud

I've herad nothing but the best reviews for both tires.. The STT's are a better value (got quoted $319 ea for 37's). How is the road noise with the hardtop on? Can you hear them through the hardtop? Interfere with the radio at all? I've only run a JK with the SRA's so I have no clue how an aggresive AT or a MT sound.. I've run my buddies TJ with thornbirds on it - awful.. Road lumpy and LOUD.. Hate that..

Awesome, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. What size are you running? The shoulder lugs aggressive like the MT ATZ SLT's? I'm looking at the 37x12.5's.. Was going to go with the ATZ SLT 37x13.5 but couldn't find an 18" rim I liked.. I'm pretty sure the ATZ's are the same as the FC II's.. Just wondering is the 37" FCII's are like the ATZ's or the ATZ SLT's..

Thornbirds are crap! Very noisy and rough. About any other mud tire out there is quieter and smoother. Mud Grappelers are pretty loud, though, but have a good ride.
