Talking First Post Idea's for modifying jeep

First post. So I've had my jeep since may 2010. I've made a few modifications such as adding a rugged ridge light bar and three hella 500's in the front and mopar sill guards and some interior mats. I was thinking about a few things i wanted to change and wanted to get some input on my next move. I was thinking about either adding a K&N air filter or a CAI don't know which one i should choose. I was also looking at some chip's i can add to improve performance. I have the upgraded radio thaat jeep had that is touch screen and has the hard drive. I was wondering if there is anything that allows you to enter items into the GPS while i'm in motion. I live in new york and do a lot of high way miles going back and forth to school so something that could improve gas mileage would be nice but i do realize i didn't buy a jeep for it's enviromental impact. Sorry if this is a lot.

I can't say I know much about the warranties, I've probably voided my warranty by now anyways so I would say if you were looking for a performance chip to go with the superchips flashpaq. I have heeard great reviews about that. Also, I don't think you'll notice a difference between a whole new CAI and just dropping in a new filter. If I could make a suggestion I would put some money into a lift and tires, thats always a great place to start for a new JK!

Definitely do lift and meats, k&n drop in will help just a little. Unless you are really itching to drop three bills on a CAI or programmer.

yea i was looking at a 3 inch lift. any suggestions. I don't want to get the type with just spacer even though i think those are limited to 2 inch kits. I also do a lot of highway driving back and forth from school so handling is really really important. this car is also my daily driver. Also how does a lift kit affect other things including a warranty.

I just put in the SuperChips today and I am digging it so far, better throttle response and seat of the pants increase.

Wheels and tires are a great place to start - you could also get an aftermarket exhaust for a more unique/custom soun. I used to have a CAI on my wish list, but took it off due to what I was reading on here. Seemed like a lot of risk for not a lot of gain.

Good luck!

Yea it looks like im taking a CAI off of the wish list. now im thinking 3.5" lift kit from rough country. Does any body have a 3.5" lift with the stock tires that come with the mountain edition jeep they are nicer tire/ rim combo than the stock one's i believe.

If you're a student with a limited budget and are concerned about economy and highway handling... and you don't plan to do hard core trails... don't do the lift and large tires. You'll lose 5-7 mpg right out of the gate. If you don't spend another $1k on new gears for those larger tires... you'll be terribly disappointed with your acceleration. The higher vehicle profile and softer spring rates will make your vehicle squirrely in a cross wind or when passed by large vehicles.

Do a spacer and 33" tires for a mildly aggressive look. Maybe the flashpaq for better performance. And, if you think you might get stuck on the trails you expect to do, get a Warn or Superwinch of the 9,000+ pound variety. If you don't have a Rubicon, you might consider lockers later.

IMHO...
