The reliability issue is maybe just speculation at this point, but loss of mpg is real. To me it makes no sense at all to buy premium fuel and then lose 2-3 mpg on top of it. That's likely extra $100 out of the pocket each month. For that money (given monthly payments) I could get a real performance upgrade, like a turbocharger. Sure, it will still need premium fuel, but at least it won't hurt the mpg, and will give undeniable power.
Lol what are you talking about? Did I say anything about premium fuel or performance upgrades? Read what I wrote man. Car manufacturers are more concerned with fuel economy and reliability than pushing the limits of the motors

Your point was Chrysler is not going to unleash the entire power potential of the engine, because by doing that, they will be sacrificing fuel economy and engine reliability. They compromise somewhat on power to have better fuel economy and engine life longevity. On the other end is Superchips, who is more concerned with power gains than fuel economy or engine reliability.

If this is really not what you said, then whatever is that you said made zero sense.

No you make zero sense. My original reply was to the fact someone said if there was a way to make more power Chrysler engineers would have figured it out. Of course they figured it out, but they are not going to give us max performance and allow a compromise in durability or fuel economy. The reason they aren't putting turbos and tuners on them from the factory is because they aren't going to be held responsible when things go wrong due to more wear and tear and potential to abuse. They have to warranty the product they put out. On the other hand Superchips and other aftermarket suppliers give a " use at your own risk" stipulation, because they don't want to be held responsible for damage incurred by using their product

This morning I filled up with 92, swapped to the 91 tune and noticed a nice increase in throttle response. Maintaining 80mpg on the interstate wasn't as much of a struggle. as well during my ride there was a yellow light that normally I would have to stop for or down shift to make it through and I felt comfortable enough to stay in 4th, accelerate a bit and make it through safely. All in all I'm happy with it. 87 noticed zilch, but the 91 is a nice improvement over stock IMO.

So long as you have realistic expectations from the power gains of a superchip, you'll be very happy with it and notice at least more sensitive throttle and some mild increase in low-mid torque. My JK is a stick and even I know I feel a nice improvement in power. Haven't noticed any + or - in mpg's. I normally run 87 tune on 89 fuel, haven't really played with 'tow' or 'crawl' modes yet.

For sure, I wasn't expecting mind blowing results, half the reason was to recalibrate the speedo, add to that I paid about half the price for the tuner since I had a $150 gift certificate to amazon, can't complain one bit.

$150 off, real Nice, yeah I also like the ability to adjust when the cooling fan comes on. Real useful for crawling. I was originally just going to go with a procal for the same reason of speedo adjustment, hind sight I'm very glad I payed the extra coin for a SC.

Now all that is left is to figure how much it is going to cost you to run the 91 tune. Obviously way more than what you paid for Superchips.
