Default Floppy axle

Hey guys,

Seems if its not one thing its another.

The last time I went over everything was probably a month or so ago so chasing down a vibe. Also changed out the axle seals maybe 1-1.5 months ago. I had my tires balanced today and the tire guy pointed out my front passenger tire is all floppy and figures my axle is broken.

I took a peak at it and I really doubt the axle is broken as it would be making an awful noise while driving and wouldn't work in much of any capacity (right?). Is this just a unit bearing that is bad causing this play? It is a lot of play which has be a bit worried it might be something else.

Probably the unit bearing as you mentioned. I don't think a ball joint can be that bad.

Unit bearing is bad. Take the wheel/tire off to confirm.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any ABS warning lights.

You know what... now that you mention it. Last weekend we were out for 3 days and my traction control light came on, the skiding looking one. Figured it was the steering wheel or a wheel speed sensor. Tried straightening the wheel which already looked straight but it didn't go away so figured just a buggered wire and was going to get to it after this week. Its still shining.

On the way home though my ABS light randomly turned on 3 times, shined for maybe a couple minutes and then turned off again. I drove the Jeep a couple times this week and no abs light again. Sounds like those woes might go away. Nice!
