Has anyone installed the Flowmaster 40 series? I was wondering on how to go about and installing it. does anyone have any pictures? Would it sit where the stock muffler is located or in a different location?

This ain't a series 40, but it's a Flowmaster. They all sound kinda similar.

oh ok that makes more sense. does changing the exhaust really help out the performance of the vehicle or is it mainly for the sound? would it be better to go with an intake system instead?

On this engine, mostly for sound. Same goes for the intake systems. I have both the Airaid CAI, and the Flowmaster 40 and I noticed little gain in performance after installing. Basically my Jeep sounds pretty damn good, and I feel a bit more pick up and go off the line. That's about it. Here is my Flowmaster thread, has pics and sound clips:

I've since painted it flat black. Also the sound of the muffler has changed over the last 8 months. It growls a bit more now, and the close to ricey sounds at higher RPM's when revving in neutral are gone.

If you're for a performance upgrade, I think the CoolTech system makes a little more than stock. Do a search on cooltech. There's a lot around here on it.

I did some looking around and another one i found was the Banks power Monster exhaust and on their website they say that their system is like 114% better than stock. has anyone seen or checked into this system? i wonder if it does work as good as they say it does.

I have the Cool Tech exhaust. The kit relocated the Magnaflow muffler under the driver's side of the Jeep. Some say this helps with clearance and prevents damage to the muffler as opposed to the stock muffler location. Although you may not see huge gains, I would say to get both intake and exhaust. The combination complements each other. Other people that have installed both noticed a slight improvement in take off & driveability. By getting both you're not restricting the inflow or outflow as compared to just getting one of the other (I will be getting an intake pretty soon). If you do get the intake, just need to be careful when going thru deep water. There are more detail threads that talk about this issue...Hope this helps...

114%. That's a TALL order. Besides that, I personally think the Banks stuff is overrated. Just my opinion. I am sure with that claim, they are including their headers as well. Since the Jeep already has headers, I just can't see how the hell they can make a claim like that. I've always thought the Banks stuff was over priced. Some of their diesel stuff is worth it, though. The cooltech is way less expensive, and there are testimonies right here on this site.

The CoolTech is a great exhaust (dont get me wrong ), If cost isnt much of a concern...If it is there are cheaper alternatives that produce the same result..See some of the old links below...

Other than a DIY, you can also buy a Magnaflow muffler or another aftermarket muffler of your choice and have a competent muffler shop install it. This route would be cheaper than purchasing the CoolTech exhaust (IMO)...
