Flow Master installation
I did the local small town muffler shop for a FlowMaster install for $135 and out the door in an hour. I didn't notice much of a difference in power, but very much in sound. And like others here, it has mellowed out over time.
I installed some Gibson headers a couple weeks back and that did make a noticable improvement to power. It also deepened the exhaust note without making it any louder. I've still not upgraded my intake, but am likely just changing to a K&N filter because I like the OEM 'keep water out' setup and the price.

The CoolTech is a great exhaust (dont get me wrong
), If cost isnt much of a concern...If it is there are cheaper alternatives that produce the same result..See some of the old links below...

Other than a DIY, you can also buy a Magnaflow muffler or another aftermarket muffler of your choice and have a competent muffler shop install it. This route would be cheaper than purchasing the CoolTech exhaust (IMO)...

I keep hearing people saying Flowmasters "mellow out". I've never noticed this on any Flowmasters I've ran in the past. I mean, the only thing in there is metal baffles, no type of fiberglass or anything to burn out.
Do you think maybe that you just get more used to the sound?

Yes, there are cheaper alternatives. Keep in mind though, neither of the two you posted come with a tailpipe. The CoolTech comes with a custom bent STAINLESS tailpipe and ALL hardware. Is't not priced bad at all for what you get. I think Woods also has a similar kit.
This was my way out.
