07rube: How's the 80 series sound on your JK? Deep growl? Any "droning" at cruising speeds on street or highway?

Also, does anyone on the forum have a 50 series installed (as per the e-mail snippet that SaharaBlackNo1 included in the 2nd post in this thread)?
I like it. It has a nice rumble when you start it up and I love the way it sounds at idle. No drone at all. It's not really loud, but I'm used to my modded Hemi with Magnaflows on my Magnum. Here's some pics.

Looks really nice. Do you have a picture of the actual muffler installed underneath? I'd love to see one and print it out and take it to the shop to show them that it can be done (although I have a feeling the shop tomorrow will be able to do what I want). What part number Flowmaster did you go with by the way?

Thanks. I'll get you some more pics tomorrow when it's daylight. Here's a pic from Flowmaster's website. The upper right tube is the inlet.

Thanks I'm looking forward to seeing how your muffler shop bent the pipe. From the pics posted so far, looks like yours is or is at least close to being in the factory position as the muffler isn't really too visible from the rear.

Let's see if I inserted those properly.

Went to the new Meineke this morning and they charged me $75 (1hrs worth) of labor to do the install, which is totally fine by me because Meineke is reimbursing me. The actual install took the tech over an hour, as he had undo everything the other shop did, throw it in the garbage and start from scratch. I'm really, really pleased with the work that Daniel from the Meineke in Hyattsville, MD did center #1042. Please forgive the gratuitous plug, I'm not trying to steer board members away, in fact they said that while they don't carry Flows or any other High Performance mufflers, they're more than happy to install whatever anyone takes them, So our sponsors here still win if anyone's in the area. Ok disclaimer taken care of and onto the meat of it:

First of all when they first looked at it they couldn't believe how bad a job the other shop did. They all commented on how it was crooked, the tailpipe looked terrible and of note the clamps that were used. Apparently Flowmaster recommends all their mufflers be welded in, NOT clamped. I'm not sure that my cell phone does the install justice, but it's exactly what I wanted. The muffler is tucked up and not able to be seen, the tailpipe is an angle tip and pointing downwards, not right under the bumper where I feared it would melt something and it's tucked up very, very close to the actual heat shield. The botched install was 6-8 and from it, off center and actually extended past the passenger side of the shield. This new one is perfectly centered, the welds are nice and clean and they really took their time with it. Everyone at the shop was super nice and on top of the great job one of the guys said he really liked the Jeep and that he was thinking about looking at a 4dr one. I told him about the board and that if he does get one, he needs to drop by.

The job is done and while it took WAY more effort than it should have, I'm pleased with the end result and pleased with how Meineke Customer Service handled things. They could have just said, sorry hope you'll still use us, but they found another shop and were reasonable about a solution, as I agreed to just walk away if the shop said it was a good install, but would expect them to pick up the tab if the shop said it was garbage.

Hope I managed to figure out how to post up pics properly.

Thanks all for reading and chiming in.

I went to all the trouble of taking more pics and posting them, and you have noting to say? Man, I've got to say I'm a lil bit disappointed. Anyway, I'm glad you're finally happy with your setup.

lol Sorry about that man I was so focused on not lousing up inserting pictures instead of links (I kept having to open iexplorer again and quote you, to see how to do it), that I totally forgot to say, 1) the install really did turn out nicely and 2) thanks for going to the extra effort of posting those pics. Hopefully, with us both being pleased with our different Flowmasters and having them installed in the factory location, it will at least give people another option when it comes to exhausts for our JKs.

No problem. You're right about the Flowmaster. It fits nicely in the factory location and sounds good.

I'm willing to bet money that the muffler that the first shop originally installed was a V-Force. I had a '01 S-10 that I went to the local Meineke to have exhaust work done on, and this is what they had. They told me it was "just like a flowmaster", so I let em put it on. You would think that it being a "knock-off" brand that it would be cheaper, but if I remember correctly that muffler cost me about $100. It didn't sound bad, but it wasn't the same as an actual Flowmaster. At least they told me what it was up front though....glad you got it straightened out!!
