Front d/s boot torn, how long do I have?
Sadly, I have joined the ranks of automatic-equipped owners who have torn the boot on my front driveshaft. When I installed the OME lift and adjustable UCA's, I also removed the skid/crossmember and ground it out for clearance below the front driveshaft. That apparently worked fine as the fresh paint is still in tact, but the driveshaft appears to have rubbed the trans pan pretty agressively
So, my question is, how long do these things usually last before giving up the ghost without the rubber boot? I don't see any grease flinging anywhere yet, but probably have less than 500 miles on since the damage. Time to save up for a front driveshaft, just wondering how much I need to sock away each week

People are driving without that boot for a year or more before swapping out. Not a huge issue. Wouldn't be a bad idea to drop the shaft every now and then to pull it apart and check that the slip joint is still good, and clean and re-grease of course.
But, you may want to limit your travel until you swap to a thinner shaft. You won't be happy if you bash in the corner of the tranny pan.
