Default front driveshaft vibration - opinions?

I have the OME HD lift (about 2.5” after bumper/winch), JEReel 1310 shafts, and 5.13 gears. I noticed that after the gear install I get a vibration from the front drive shaft at 65mph and above. It is minor – about the same as the engine at 4000 rpm – but it is there. I adjusted the rear upper CAs to correct the rear pinion angle. I have not done this on the front (have stock CAs), as I fear correcting the pinion angle will adversely affect steering.

Should I get adjustable front uppers and raise the pinion angle until the vibration disappears completely? Is some vibration OK? If so, is there a guideline on how much is acceptable?

Any opinions welcome.

Backlash could be off from changing the gears.... Was it a reputable shop that swapped the gear?

I would give JE Reel a call on this. I wouldnt think the gears would cause a vibration unless they were set up wrong. I know there is a fine line between caster and driveline angles. You sometimes sacrifice one or the other.

Sorry i missed the part where you stated that you are running new driveshafts... IF you know how to work a wrench take out the new driveshaft and put in your old one.. Drive at 65 mph and see what happens... if you are still experiencing vibrations it is probably the gears being setup wrong... if it goies away the driveshaft is probably out of balance just slightly.

Post your findings! I will subscride to this thread and try to help you along as much as possible!

You kind of have to compromise between handling and a smooth front driveline after changing over to a double cardan front driveshaft. I'm running 5 degrees of castor and it's pretty good on both.

I cant really put my old one on as I have different flanges now. I did remove the front shaft completely, however, and the vibration has not changed. I also just had my tires balanced/rotated to remove that as possibility. I will get with the shop tomorrow and see what they think - they are closed now.

You probably had the vibe before the gears. With new gears the driveshaft is spinning a lot faster now than before, especially at 65mph! I think...

I dont think its the rear shaft as the vibe does not change when load changes/accel/decel/coast/etc. I have also adjusted the rear pinion angle with upper CAs to get shaft in line with the tcase.

The front is not the issue as I removed it completely and the vibration is still there, unchanged.

Is there another test I should do?
