Front End Binding?
Hello everyone! I recently replaced my ball joints with Moog, upper and lowers, and got everything back together, now my ABS, and traction control lights are on (I assume its the wheel speed sensors so they are on the way) but my main issue is after I reverse in or out of a spot and put it in drive, I can hear binding and metal on metal...nothing looks like its out of place as far as I can see...wasn't sure if anyone has seen or had this issue and what the solution is. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to JKF. Question have you identified the area of origination of the sound; e.g.. in the front suspension, underneath in the center or even toward the rear. Only when turning ? only when going from reverse to drive or after you stop in drive and take off ? You might, in a parking lot, have someone stand outside to listen while you drive by with noise in process..
Going to do that now. Currently it sounds like it's in the front. I had the whole front end taken apart for the ball joints, did some spinning with the front end up and there's a small thumping coming from somewhere in the front. Sounded like it was in the diff so I took it off and changed the oil. Everything looked good
I'll update after I try the parking lot idea

So I tested it in a flat parking lot and couldn't get it to do it. But I backed put of my driveway for work and it did it again. This time I noticed the hill decent(?) light come on and flash at me? Like I said earlier my abs and traction control lights are on, I know it's the sensor, I've had a bad one for a little while. So I'm wondering if what I am hearing is the hill decent or hill assist kicking in and grabbing? Not too sure what's going on.
This is a bit of a weird one cuz nothing you did, outside of reinstalling the axle shafts, would have anything to do with anything inside the diff, and neither the ABS nor the hill assist should lead to any metal-on-metal binding. I mean, the hill decent is just operating the brakes. I think, like Jay, this requires more experimentation to reproduce it and pinpoint it as best as possible. It's certainly not a common one IMO.
This is a bit concerning. Did you give things a good spin while that cover was off and see if you could hear anything then, or did you just visually inspect?

Yes, I spent a good 30+ minutes spinning it and looking at everything, even had my wife spin the tires while I listened and watched, the noise is more in the hubs now, I read another thread that said it may have gunk in the hub where the wheel speed sensor goes. I hooked my flashcal to it and it came back with "C1014, Left Front Wheel speed comparative performance" so I ordered new wheel speed sensors that should be here in the morning. I think it is related to the wheel speed sensor because now I can only get it to do it when I back down a hill, and drive back up it. I previously had issues with the right caliper hanging up pretty bad, so I'm ordering brake lines too. I've got a whole new front end on the brightside!
