gear prices
Personally, I would not pay more than $1,500.
When a 4wd shop quotes you for everything, ask for the break down---how much for the parts, oil, install. A lot of time they will put a hefty markup on the parts. You can normally save some cash by purchasing the parts from a vendor....such as northridge4x4--free shipping too!

I checked today with the stealership, and they quoted me $1850. $700 for the gears, and the rest for labor and oil. The gears have a lifetime warranty, and your existing warranty would still be honored if the dealer does it. That was for 5:13 gears.
If you run a SEARCH you will find a couple of threads where various members from different geometries listed what the going rate was in their area.
I think the lowest price was in Texas.
