Gearing Question
Before I start, I already have read the stickies and tried searching for my answer, may be a dumb question but to me its reasonable.
So, I' picking up my 35's this weekend for my 2012 2 door. 3.6 and 6 speed manual. I have 3.21 gears right now.
I plan on purchasing my gears soon, either 4.56 or 4.88. Some people say 3.21s are "tolerable" but as a DD and trail rig I don't want "tolerable". My original plan was to get gears then buy tires but I'm getting a sweet deal on a set.
The question is since I have 3.21s do I need both a front AND rear carrier, or just a front carrier.
Thanks!

Front and rear. Check with your gear installer as they will know just what you are going to need and they may have used carriers laying around their shop that they could use. The ones that say it is tolerable are just deniers that don't want to spend the money. Without proper gearing performance drops both on road and off road, even with bigger tires off road you will have to use momentum to throw the jeep at steep obstacles. This is more likely to result in broken components such as broken axles and wear on ball joints and unit bearings.
with a 6-speed?? How flat is your terrain?
35s with 4.11s was tolerable. I can imagine with 3.73s will be sufferable, with 3.21s I can only imagine it being miserable. Not being able to get into 6th gear is one thing, but you have to worry about starting from a start as well.
Are you getting all new wheels and tires? Just throw them on and drive around with them and see how terrible it is. Hate it that much, just throw your stocks back on it until you get gears.
