Default Gearing question about carrier replacement.

I have the crappy 3.21 gearing in my unlimited. I want to goto 4.10 to run 35s. If I install trutrac front and rear they are essentially the new carriers correct?

Looking at the pictures, yes. Two birds with one stone! Are you sure 4.10 will be enough gear though? If you're already going, why not go deeper?

Agree with Karl......You're not going deep enough. If you're going to pay for a regear, gear it properly for those 35s. You could easily go 4.88 or 5.13 with that 3.8L and auto tranny.

Yes. I would at least go 4.88. A 5.13 pinion in a D30 is just too small.

BTW I now have a 14 unlimited. The 410 is more than enough for our style of driving.

I ran 33s with 3.73 gears on my 2011 and it was fine.

Keep forgetting your profile is outdated. Please update that as we do reference that information when it's not in the post.

On a side note, I hear a lot of people say "it was fine". There is a difference between being "fine" and being geared as the jeep was intended to run. I've been on 35s with 3.73 and 4.10. I've been on 37s with 4.10, 5.13, and 4.88. There is a lot of difference when you recall what ideal gearing feels like. A lot of people get use to their own "normal", and that is fine, but just saying.....

If it were me, I'd do 4.56 with 35s and the 3.6L.

Correct, the truetrac takes the place of the carrier. You will not have the additional $80-90 expense of a new open carrier for the d30 when moving from 3.21 to higher numeric gears.

Like I said, it's fine for me and keeps the mileage. We do have long distances between fill up and running lower rpm on the highways makes more sense than having a bit of power when wheeling.

Having run 4.56 with 35's and the 3.6... I'll say it drives like a stock vehicle. 70 mph on the highway had me at about 2400 RPM in 6th gear. I got about 18 mpg. I don't see you getting better mileage than that, but I do see you have to hunt gears while driving up hills or passing on the highway.
