Default Gearing Questions

well ive had 33's on for about 2 months now and cant deal with the sluggishness anymore. would 4.10 gears help me that much compared to my 3.21? hows it going to affect my gas mileage? and how expensive are they to have installed? im hoping to grab a used pair from someone on here upgrading. are there any major drawbacks to that? thanks for taking the time to look.

It'll help you dramatically. I'd recommend a lower gear (higher numerically) or to wait if you're going to go to 35s anytime in the next few years. Gearing is something to do once.

In your case, 4.10s would probably improve your mileage, because it puts things back in the correct power band. Of course that assumes an automatic, I don't know what the effect would be if you have a manual. My mileage went up a bit when I went from 35s with 4.10 to 35s with 5.13.

As with anything it depends on your driving style too.

It's not do it yourself if you need to ask. You want someone with experience changing gears. The cost varies. I think somewhere around $300 per axle is typical.

Unless you have done it before or have a friend that will walk you through, I would highly recommend having it done by an experienced shop.

Prices vary by location. In my area parts and labor front and rear costs somewhere between $1400 and $2000! It's not cheap!
