Default Gears installed today - rubi lockers always locked

The shop installed my gears today and the front and rear rubi lockers are now locked all of the time - even in 2wd. I searched the forum and cannot find any info on this particular issue. I'm pretty sure it's a damaged sensor or busted wire. Any ideas? I left it at the shop. They said they would research it, but I thought I'd try to get y'all to help them too. Seems strange that both front and rear would be busted.

There is a little clip (in the below pic, it's the silver Y looking piece between the two bolts on the right) that "often" isn't reinstalled correctly, or is damaged when first removed during a re-gear. It needs to be seated (unlike the one in the pic) in the cutout on that silver band to perform it's function of preventing the sensor from rotating and making contact with the diff cover (seems like after market covers exacerbate the contact issue).

It's possible that the sensors have been damaged, or are now rotated and in contact with the diff cover, which I believe (not sure here) may interfere with their operation.

Just throwing this out - hopefully the "big guns" will show up with definitive answers.

Edit: By the way, there must be dozens of posts on this subject that I've read over the last couple of years. Don't give up searching . . . try different look-up terms till you find them. There is some very good info on this site relative to this issue.

Thanks. I forwarded your reply to my mechanic. He has earned my trust, but this may have been his first rubi locker regear.

Was curious to see if I could find some of the older threads I've read which address this issue. More info below:

Pic of what the "Y" retainer/clip should look like when correctly seated:

Another very distinct possibility, and maybe of greater probability than the issue I mentioned above, is that the locker sensor plunger has been re-installed improperly. This can result in two symptoms - Firstly, the locker will engage/disengage but the locker indicator on the dash will flash. Secondly, and very possibly your issue, is the plunger will be continuously engaged, not allowing the locker to disengage (see the below pics by wayoflifette).

This is what the sensor looks like when installed improperly:

This is what the sensor looks like when installed correctly:

Hope this helps. Let us know if you get things worked out . . . and also what the issue was.

JK-Rubi is 100% dead on!!!
My front was locked all the time after a regear and this was the issue. The bad part is the sensor is now probably bent and you need 2 new ones. Also you have to take the carrier and gears out to put the new sensors in.

My mechanic this morning verified that the sensors are installed incorrectly. Thanks for all the help.

Tell your guy the sensors have to be installed before the carrier goes in. There's a good chance the sensors are okay and everything just needs to be taken apart and reinstalled in the proper order. If the sensors are bent, it'll be very obvious.
