is it necessary to buy a new installation kit or is it possible to reuse the old hardware?

You will need at a bare minimum new ring gear bolts, new pinion nuts, new crush sleeves, extra pinion and carrier shims, and new pinion seals. Do not try to re-use these items(except the shims). IF you are able remove the old bearings and keep them in a useable condition, then you can re-use your bearings....but...they are easily deformed when trying to remove them, and during set up you will likely remove the pinion bearings frequently in order to get pinion depth set with the new gear set...which if you're doing this yourself would mean a set of setup pinion bearings would be VERY handy.
DO NOT underestimate the amount of torque required to crush the crush collars (sleeves)...it's an insane amount, for mine upwards of 350 ft/lbs, if you do not have the ability to hold that pinion steady while doing this step you will not be able to complete the task...NO a big old air gun won't do the trick, nor will a big pipe wrench on the flange...if you cannot obtain the proper millar tool for the job or fabricate a suitable alternative, you will not be able to do this.
If any of that doesn't make sense, then I would suggest re-reading the write up and sourcing out further information before you attempt this. There are other great resources online that can help fill in the gaps.....especially what a proper mesh pattern will look like when painted up and run (because I still haven't put pics of that in there)

one great piece of advice....take your time and keep your cool! ....if your starting to get a little frustrated, walk away and grab a coffee (not a beer) come back to it after a break...seriously...and good luck!

I just got finished putting my gears in about 2 hours ago. It took me the better part of 7 hours to do the whole job, with my cousin giving me a hand. The amout of rusted/seized parts was annoying.
