Gerry Can Question
First to respond to a couple jokers...I think wherever that gas can is mounted on the Jeep with full fuel and it explodes, you're royally screwed...and I don't smoke.
But thanks for the concern and forewarning.
To answer where I'm going to mount it, I took out my back seat and where the hoops are on the floor will be my base...On the passenger side of the jeep, by the wheel hump will be where my mount sits atop the metal hooks.
Once I fab the thing, whether I decide to keep it or not, I'll post pictures in the How To...but that may not be for a while now.

Well I have a DD that has 20 gallons right behind my seat, I would ride in the back right beside it....lol. I want to see pics when its done because I may put 2 of them in my JK, I could really care less. Whats the difference, if theres 5 gallons in the backseat, or a big gastank right under your backseat??? Hmmm, if it doesn't leak and you don't smell gas, I really don't see anything wrong, but that may just be me and him.
I've hauled the gas tank (5 gal) for my outboard motor in the back a couple of times without incident. I put it in one of those huge tupperware containers just in case it decided to leak, it didn't.
I personally wouldn't do it all the time, but do what you want, and do a write up if you do.
I have no idea weather that's a good brand of Jerry can or not.

I only ask this question because I'm going to be doing a full 2 month road trip around the entire west half of America and I'm going to be taking nothing but backroads except for when I must refuel and of course need to buy supplies. So I want a Gerry can for when my Jeep runs low on a trail and I'm not close to any major roads with a gas station...
I'll post a new thread and explain everything.

On a long trip, extra gas is good insurance. Nothing to do with the can itself...it HAS to allow excess vapor to escape when the gas warms, or, it WILL BLOW UP.
If it warms inside the rig, you WILL have gas vapors in the rig, its physics. A trick - VENT the cans to the outside (A vent from the vapor release on the can, out a window, etc....) so the vapors are released outside, instead of inside...
Also - consider the flat wide cans, they are very easy to mount, and in an accident, they act more like a fuel cell than a traditional can....as they can give with an impact more easily w/o rupturing, etc.

BTW - it might be easier to find as a JERRY can, than as a GERRY can.

The German's had them in WWI, the Brits made a pun, in that Jerry was slang for German, AND slang for a potty (Chamber pot, etc...), and the can's were German AND LOOKED like a chamber pot of that era, etc.
They copied the design, and they've been called Jerry cans ever since.
