Default getting the old muffler off--help!!!!

i started on my rreplacment muffler--again. i used a ton of that PB lube stuff and a set of vise grips and i was able to get only ONE hanger off the rubber holder..took the grips, hooked one side to the base of the hanger, and then tried to push the nipple back thru the holder..

no dice..2 hours and was able to get one off..what am i doing wrong?

Thanks

They are a beast to get off without an exhaust hanger tool. I ended up taking a sawzall to the old muffler hanger then it was a piece of cake.

Cut all that sh!t off..... if you move everything around too much you are going to loosen up the pipes that connect to the manifolds causing exhaust leaks...

Nope, cut the metal hanger that is welded to the old exhaust. Then you will be able to slide the piece of metal backwards out of the rubber hanger. You will need some kind of metal blade for this though.

Whatever you want to cut or whatever you "need" to cut. Just make sure you are using a metal cutting blade. One time (at band camp), my DumbA$$ tried using a wood blade. I kept thinking..... "Why won't this cut?"

i'm not worried about selling or trading..once it's on, i'm not taking it off..i may need a thicker blade. it wasn't going thru the hanger.

i'm gonna as a newbie question here--should i worry about the sparks that kick off my saw/grind? it's near the gas tank & evap cansiter. my over active imagination is in overdrive.
