Gibson dual exhaust?
Hey folks, I am in need of some opinions on the Gibson dual exhaust for the 4 door. I am considering this exhaust and 1) am actively looking for one and 2) need opinions good and bad.
Basically if you've got one and hate it I want to hear it and if you've got one and love it I want to hear that too... pros/cons whatever.
I did the search thing and didn't find much but I'm assuming the info is here somewhere burried somehwere.
I can honestly this is an awesome site and resource owing a JK! Whoever started this site THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Anyway, gimme what you got..... good, bad, new, used... I'm interested.
Thanks

hi well i have the dual exhaust.... well Ive had two of them because the first one fell off
but they did replace it under warranty .. i like the looks of the exhaust and it sounds good it think.. can be alittle loud with the top off , not to bad. over all i like it for the price.. i have the alumnized one not the stainless steel.. but i also had a friend that had one that his fell off also from i think a weld breaking or the metal around the weld breaking.. so not sure if it is a big problem for them or not . so that would be my only concern . overall it think its a pretty nice exhaust.

Well I have the single exit exhaust from Gibson, and Im still enjoying every minute of the sound!
The below link should send you to sound clip. Hope this can sort of help your decision. If not just go to main site, and search "Gibson JK Wrangler" and it should come up.

I love mine and wouldn't trade it for any other brand. The sound is great and along side a CAI and TBS I definitely picked up more power.
Here is my install thread on the Gibson cat-back dual exhaust......https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/gibson-split-rear-cat-back-dual-exhaust-install-80275/
And by the way, it tucks up higher than the stock exhaust did. Not that this means it's out of the way now but rather without having to go the relocate route, you do pick up a few inches of clearance compared to stock.
I also painted mine (originally aluminized) matte black using high temp paint. Here are some pics right after I painted it.

I recommend the Gibson duals. Easy to install. The only issue I had was it was not straight. The pipes were at a slight angle. Most people would never have noticed but it drove me crazy. A trip to the muffler shop and $25 later it was corrected and he was able to tuck the system a little closer underneath. It is a little loud at highway speeds when the passing gear kicks in but around town and idling, it is awesome. I have had several people ask me what size V8 I had in it! Be sure and re-torque the extensions after a while. The guy at the muffler shop advised they vibrate loose. He tack-welded mine.
There's a lot written in other threads about the loss of low end power with the dual exit exhausts. The quality of the Gibson exhausts have also come into question many times. Although if you want to make noise as opposed to get performance it seems to make people happy.
The most functional stuff out there is the relocation kits. Woods, MBRP and Cooltech. gets the can out of the way and single exit. Another option is your local muffler shop and a new can to relocate. Magnaflow seems to be the preference for the replacement muffler, and some length choices depending on how loud you want with a straight through design.

As far as everything else, the exhaust is a quite attractive and does sound good at idle speeds and RPMs around 1,500 or so. Once you start to cruise at 2k-2.5k it will start to make your head rattle after long trips.
If you are looking for power gains I would not suggest the exhaust but a tuner instead, if you are looking for the aesthetics (much like I was . . .
) then go for it.

I'm running the stainless version of this system. I put it on just over a year ago when the Jeep had 200 miles on it. I currently have 17,700+ miles on the Jeep and no issues with this exhaust. During installation, I put a small spot weld on the joint where it clamps to the end of the factory pipe just to be safe. Only thing I've ever done to it over the past year is polish the tips a few times. I'm running this exhaust, an AEM cold air intake, Hypertech programmer, 33" tall tires on my Rubicon 4 door and my fuel mileage is averaging high 16's with a lot of hilly and city driving.

Great thread everyone... thanks for all the info and insight.... keep it coming.
I am really only getting it for looks, a bit better tucked up and smaller and different exhasut note. I don't like the whisper quiet of the stock exhaust and the shear size of it to me kinda makes it looks clunky.
I've heard the sound bites of the single exit and it sounds good and deep.... not tinny or tuner carish at all so I think I'll enjoy it. Mind you I used to own a Corvette which had a distinct rumble and loud exhaust so a deep loud drone is better than the radio to me at times LOL.
I've put a few threads out in search of a used one and I'm checking the shops locally to see if I can get one so we'll see.
Thanks again everyone.. Cheers Steve
Like holly crap blockrockin and JPTwinz!!!! Freakin monsters you got there!!!! Nice job
