Goo Gone Alternative
I swear by duct tape. I've scratched too many finishes trying to rub glue or tar or other junk off of surfaces
Once you get the original decal off, grab some duct tape (or whatever is remaining of the original decal) and reapply, and remove the tape (or decal) repeatedly, each time pulling more and more glue with it.

Just use your fingernail and take it slow. Try to focus the pressure on the edge of the sticker. Use one of the liquids to soften the glue after the sticker is gone. Once again, focus your pressure against the glue. Not the paint. Use the liquid as a lubricant to protect the paint. make sure the area around the glue remains damp when rubbing. Clean and wax the area after the glue is gone. It's not realy that bad of a job. I usually pick and choose what decals and emblems I leave on all my vehicles. It's an easy and cheep way to customize your ride.
