I got a good deal on a Warn xd9000i, about $800.00. A bit of extra power for a low price (they charge us about $1200 for them here in Canada, so I went to Seattle).

The 8000 is a good winch but I'd rather have the extra power to match the added weight of the 4-door. That said, the 8000 will still help you out, just be wary of its specs and limits.

I was wondering whether the Warn 8000 would be enough for the 4 door. Sounds like it might not be.

You're on the right track....BUT I'll throw in this for what it's worth. Unless you will be doing a lot of close to, or verticle winching, I believe the M8000 is enough for the 4 door. Warn products are constantly tested well beyond their rated specs without failure. This is why they are probably the top rated winch company. Whichever one you get, if you get a Warn, you can't go wrong.

I was almost surprised when this Warn 8000 pulled out a stuck F-350 with little fuss, using the ARB snatch block, a 3/4" D-ring, and a tree saver strap.

I've used mine once on my 4-door and it did pretty well. I got mine for $499 shipped, which was barely any more than the harbor freight model, and I'm quite pleased with the quality. I have to admit that I was really close to getting a Superwinch EPi9.0, though...

Another idea, if you're not 100% sure, is to get the 8000 and get some synthetic cable. Much stronger, easy on the hands, and flexible, it just requires the different fairlead. It does cost more but will save weight and is worth considering. Then, your limiting factor will be the winch itself and not the components.

As much as working on a budget is important, the extra bit may help.

Cheers.
