Goodyear 34's
Im looking at the Goodyear MT 305/70R/17. These tires are supposed to be mounted white letters out, but almost everyone with photos has them mounted with black out. Since they were made to be mounted white out are there any adverse affects to mounting them black out??
I would think that the voids would not clear as intended. There certainly has to be a reason why Goodyear recommends the tire be mounted with the more open voids to the exterior?
Edit: forgot to add the question mark...I'd love to know the answer to your question as well since I have considered the same tire.

[Ok, here's the scoop from a nice sounding girl from Good Year. She had no idea why the outside had to be outside. I asked to speak to an engineer and they do not have engineers to talk to consumers. I persisted and she talked to her manager. After awhile, she came back with " The outer larger lugs are on the outside to handle mud and rocks and the inner smaller lugs are for stability on the road." No mention of cornering on the front. So, from that, if you are going to run in mud or rocks, do it with the outside of the tire and run on the road with the inside........ I just had to say that! ]
The above is from the same questions I had after havibg them mounted black out. I bought the wheels & tires frpm 4wheelparts and they reimbursed me to have the white letters out. In the end, though, the only advantage I can see is possibly throwing the mud to the outside rather than under the Jeep.

For some odd reason some sizes of the MT/R Kevlars come as OWL instead of BSW.
Since they are asymmetrical, the white letters have to be out for them to function as designed. More than likely, the ones that you see that look like the White lettering has been turned in, actually only have BSWs.

Mount the tires with White letters out if they have white letters. they are specifically designed to run with an inside tread and an outside tread. If you dont like white letters, get a different tire. I have this exact tire and size. I have them mounted as they are designed and they work great. Who cares what it looks like. they work great. I actually think white letter out looks good anyway. especially with black wheels.

And I dont like the white letters...I've gone through the trouble of taking everything off and blacking it out, I want all black tires..Does anyone know of another tire that is 34?? I know Toyo has one, but its damn expensive....Ill prob just go with the 33 km2's. I dont want to have to re-gear and I dont want to lose that much ON road performance...

We have the 315 GY with white out and they are beginning to look very bad.
Get a can of flat black paint and just paint the white when you wash them.
A lot of trouble just so GY can get free advertising on your Jeep.
JMHO YMMV
