Got hit from a guy running red light....
I just checked several insurance companies for a new policy and every one of them said after market parts are not covered unless you add a rider for them. Most had a $4000 to $5000 limit on the add on parts.
Filing a law suit against your own insurance company if the policy specifically has a clause excluding coverage for the parts will get you no where except attorney's fees.

USAA:
Comprehensive
Covers damage caused by something other than another vehicle such as hail, theft, or collision with an animal. $5000 limit may apply to custom equipment and glass replacement may be subject to your deductible.
I do not have a separate rider for this. Comes standard. Of course, you have to be active duty, reserves, a veteran or the child of a veteran to join.

My agent told me "If it's on your jeep, it's covered." Simple as that. Also mentioned if I don't have a receipt, that if I can verify the MSRP value on a website, that's all they need to file the claim.
I called my agent a couple of weeks ago, inquiring about the same thing. He told me that if I wasn't at fault, everything should be covered under the insurance carrier of the driver at fault. However, if I were at fault...he would only be able to cover the cost of the vehicle, unless he rewrote the policy. So I had to write up a list of everything that I have added on, along with prices and pics in order for him to rewrite it. Later he told me that a new Texas law prevented bumpers from being covered, since it was technically part of the frame...? It wasn't worded exactly like that...but it wasn't far off. At least I can sleep a little better at night!! Best of luck!
