Default Had to Remove the Tire Carrier :(

Well I was watching very carefully since I had the 35's put on and the spare. I noticed over the months that the tire was getting closer and closer to the bumper. Out of fear that the tail gate would get a wrinkle in it I decided to remove the tire carrier. Not a fan of the look but now I need to get a rear bumper with tire carrier.Saving money to get one. Any one have any suggestions on what to use to cover up the holes where the "REAR NIPPLES" are?

EDIT: FIXED NIPPKES TO NIPPLES

Order a Teraflex 3rd brake light. It bolts in the stock tire carrier location and you'll need it once you get the new bumper. It runs $60 + shipping. Just a heads up, I ordered mine on March 25th and I'm still waiting...

Oooh...666 posts.

Good call. Keeping a tire that big on a factory tailgate/tire carrier never seemed like a good idea to me as it almost always caused problem on the TJ's in the past.

As far as the "NIPPKES" go, are you refering to the rubber isolators? If so, the holes are quite large but I'm pretty sure you can find a trim fastener (plastic looking bolt with a thin flat head and tree like fins for threads - used to hold interior trim panels in place) to that will fit it. Check your local Lowe Hardware specialty hardware drawer section for something that will fit.

Yea started to hear a lot of noise on bumps from the tirecarrier, was starting to worry. It is nice how much easier it feels on the tailgate now when it's open.

I cant seam to find the thread, but somebody found those plastic pop-in plugs at a hardware store to fit.

I would imagine them being plastic, you could probably paint them easy enough and make them mostly dissappear.

(or, in laymans terms, rip yer nipples off and go with pasties? )

Depending on the tire carrier you get they may still be of use to you. (The rubber isolators). My setup still uses them and keeps my spare from ratteling too much. Just don't toss or get rid of them permenantly, just in case.

Ok. I'll bite. What are "NIPPKES"??

I put on the PureJeep rear with tire carrier and love it. No rattles. Mounted my high-lift and shovel using Quick Fists (great product) between door and carrier. The PJ carrier has adjustable stops that are meant to contact the rubber protrusions on the JK tailgate.

It is clear to me the PJ tire carrier is designed to hold a lot more than I put on it. With the stock Rubi rear, high-lift jack and shovel the carrier rides a bit high. With 35" tires (or bigger) the added weight would cause it to settle a bit. I needed to put some spacers (aka "washers") on the Delrin sliders to keep them from banging around - works great!.

Substitute the "K" for an "L".

How long did it take before the problem manifested? I'll be leaving mine on until Shrockworks comes out with theirs (oh where oh where is the Shrockworks tire carrier, oh where oh where can it be...).

I will have the same problem if I ever get the lift and wheels/tires. I think I may it off the rear bumper until Shrockworks comes out with there tire carrier. I know, I'll be driving around with it like that for awhile.
