Hard tops paintable?
I bought a freedom top off Craigslist in excellent condition, save for the removable panels. They've got some nasty gashes on them. Was thinking about filling them in, then just painting over it. Called around for color matching, type of paint, etc. One dealership said yay, the other said nay (the current paint will resist a new coat or something). Has anyone repainted their top panels? Any suggestions or tips?
Several threads on this previously. You can definitely have them painted. COP4x4 has some really good examples.
All threads seem to agree to pay to have it done right the first time, don't try to paint yourself unless your a pro. Looks like most of the tops out there were sanded first. Also sounds like it greatly helps with heat redution in the summer time.

Mine got a few dings on it and the white was showing. They were really small so I just took perminant marker and filled the white. You can see it when you get up close but it isn't an eye sore at 10ft.
I know it can be done,I have seen sceamin lizard customs in bedford paint one to match the body color. It looked pretty sharp.I think you would have to use a bonding agent to get it to stick.
