Hardtop mounted rack for '12 JKU?
Guys, I was an expedition style rack for my hard top, but most of the ones I see actually mount to the body. Are there any good ones that mount directly to the top of the hard top and don't cover my freedom panels?

I've gone with Gobi, but mounts to body and frame. Still works with freedom tops though.
My issue with those that mount to the top only, is strength. AEV mounts through the top to the roll bar. MBRP makes a nice rack too.
Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

Nice Rack!
I have the Yakima and like it.
Yakima 8001616 - YAKIMA Hard Top Roof Track Rack for 07-14 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...imited-284484/
Pros:
- Easy to remove when not used. Only short landing pads (with covers) remain in the tracks.
- Easy install. Mounts to top only so only have to drill through top.
- No disassembly to remove hard top. Some that mount through hard top to roll bar require additional disassembly before removing top.
- Lots of add-ons like bike rack, kayak stands, canoe rack, basket, etc.
Cons:
- Limited by strength of top. If you can't lift it up there, it shouldn't be up there. 70# is about the limit.
- Lots of wind noise from cross bars. Thankfully they are easy to remove and install.
- You do have to drill through the hard top. (Measure 5 times, drill once.)
- Can only be used when hard top is on.
Uses:
- Kayaks to the beach or spring.
- A single sheet of plywood, a few 2x4s or loads of gutters or PVC pipe from the hardware store.

Check out Rnino Racks, this is what I am planning to put on. Saw them at SEMA and was very impressed.
I dont want something that attaches to the rollbar so I can still take the top off easy.

Does the MBRP rack mount to just the hardtop itself, or to the roll bars? I'm actually planning on getting the light rack for the front...I may just end up saving and getting the rack and basket too if it mounts to the top only.
