Default HD Alternator

I may need a new alternator for my 08 JKU Rubi. Exactly a month ago I replaced the battery with what Interstate Battery claims was an equal match for an Optmia battery with a 5 year warranty versus 3 on an Optmia.

So I had to jump it this morning which leads me to believe I may need a new alternator. Nothing appeared to have been left on over night. Later today I will have the two tested.

What would you recommend as a HD replacement verses a stock replacement. As of now I only have F/R rigid ind. LED lights and a CB. I have a Warn 9.5ti sitting waiting for a bumper and would like to run a dual battery setup in the future.

Any recommendation with personal experience would be awsome, thanks in advance. Kevin

Take a look at the Mean Green. Since you plan on adding a winch, lights and other electrical accessories, this would be the one to get. Way better than the stock alternator.

Tinglima,

Thank you for the quick response. I had the batt, and alt tested by two different shops today. The batt was 13 volt, with 830 cold crank amps, and I hink they said the Alt was 150 amps. So who knows what it was.

Kevin,

It seems your Jeep fixed itself. I wish I was that lucky. The battery in my Jeep suddenly died recently and had to be replaced. My JK is a little over 2 1/2 years old and I had no warning when it died. Strange I can't seem to get more than 3 years out a of a car battery. Guess it's my luck. I replaced it with the yellow top Optima and so far I'm happy with it. The old battery showed 12.5 volts after being charged but failed the load test miserably. Alternator checked out good as well. If you're running the original battery, you might want to keep the jumper cables handy or perhaps keep a portable jumper battery on hand just in case.

Tony...

I would take a voltage tester and test the output of the alternator while it's idling (should be around 14V output) and then test to see if there's a drain on the battery when the engine is turned off also.

I was looking to swap out for the Mean Green system in the future once I throw a winch on this thing. It's worth the money.

f2fast4u,

Thanks for all the suggestions. We tested everything like u stated and everything checked out ok. My mechanic/friend thinks either something was left on or he mentioned a sensor that thought it may not be in park.

I bought the Mean Green and love it. Without it my Warn HP would drain my battery steadily with just the air compressor and headlights/radio on. Now, I don't get the battery warning when I air up all four tires.
