Default HD Diff cover question.......

When replacing diff covers, if I'm reading correctly in the manual, you don't need any additives, right? Just diff fluid? Thanks.

Default Depends

If you have lockers or a LSD you will, but otherwise I am pretty sure you don't.

You only need the additiive(friction modifier) if you have LSD, lockers do not require it. Most premium synthetics( mobil 1, amsoil, royal purple) already include the additive. So if you use one of them, you do not have to worry about it unless you still have some chatter from your LSD. If you do, then you might have to add some more to help it slip more.

That's what I thought. In the manual it, if I read correctly, you just need the additive for the LSD. I'm using Royal Purple and per WOL's write up for the Solid diff cover for the front axle, he didn't use any additive, but I didn't want to assume that the rear was the same. Thanks.

I replaced with Mobil 1 on my LSD and no chatter.
