Default Help?

Hey guys...as you all know its winter time and i specifically live in new england, therefore bitter weather! I have a concern for my jeep. My drivetrain is making a ticking noise that i dont know what it is...and when i hit the throttle it makes a "slurpy" noise and its coming directly from the tranny area. When the jeep is fully warmed up it goes away. Can anyone give me an explanation on what it could be. Im honestly thinking its so cold that the gear oil is all "gunky" making the gears "chatter". Is this normal? My jeep is a 09 jk that i bought new last march. it has 2.5" lift with 35's

thanks

Pretty sure its normal my jeep has done it since new. Also I've noticed that the trans won't shift inot OD when its cold. I think it needs to reach a certain temp first.

Another reason I think its just cold is I never have that happen in the summer. But have noticed it for the last 3 winters.

Change your trans and gear oils and use synthetic. O.E.M. oil may not be correct for the extreme temps you drive in.
Here in Az, we change our O.E.M. oils because it doesn't work in 115˚F ambient temps.
BTW:
It is 65˚F today.

Thank you guys so much for your replys, i know it has nothing to do with modding but its my jeep and i want it to run good is all. I had my dealer look at it..they say nothing wrong and i believe them cause of it. I have full intentions to run synthetic gear oil so it dont freeze up easily. Thanks again! wranglers for life!

Well.....I run in below 0 temps for half the winter and I don't have any clunks or slurps......and my OD works just fine in those temps as well. Guess I better knock on wood.....

Oh......I did but synth in the front and rearends this past fall. Helps a lot...

The O/D is prevented only when transmission temp is -16°F or below. Torque converter lockup is prevented until the transmission reaches about 83°F. What you are seeing is the corresponding rpm drop of the t/c locking up as the tranny warms up.
It doesn't lock when cold because t/c slip generates heat, forcing the transmission to warm up faster. And, it will slip more in o/d than it will in 3rd if you turn o/d off.

Thats cool information thanks for clearing that up.

As far as syn oil goes. I've run Mobile 1 since Day 1 in the engine.
Mobile 1 in front and rear diffs since 15k
and Mobile 1 in the trans case since 15k

Hmmm, wet slurpy or dry slurpy sound?Make sure you didn't run over two gay guys trying to keep warm, then check your exhaust heat shields aswell. Ticking can also be a cracked manifold or loose bolts, they tend get quieter when the metal expands.
