It's going to take a while. Tight access and lots of the fine threads. Slow and steady...

I just recently got my front two off. Like others said put a wrench on top. & an open faced on the bottom & take it slow & stead. I also had the jeep up on jack stands & tires off all free hanging weight. It was a breeze.

It's an 07 with 36,000 miles. So they aren't creampuff shocks but did great

I'm trying to get the top of the front shocks unbolted and I've about given myself a stroke doing it. I've got a 9/16th's wrench gripping the top of the shock tube, then I've weaseled a 9/16" ratcheting wrench onto the top nut.

I've then proceeded to work that wrench as hard as I can. I've made some progress but it's incredibly slow going. I've hit it with PB blaster and let that soak but so far still no joy. Is there any way to get a socket onto the top so I can get a breaker bar in? Should I lift the front axle with a jack to take pressure off the top nut? Am I working the wrong parts?

Anyhoo, any advice (including "you're doing it right, just push harder") would be appreciated.

thanks
I have done numerous sets of these, and all of the advice that you received about the gear wrench is accurate. I will tell you that we did a lift on an '07, and the nut was seized. We ended up using a torch to cut the shock out. If you have to do this, have a fire extinguisher or some water handy as the rubber shock bushing got pretty hot and smokey.

once you get the top nut loose, you should be able to leave the wrench on the top nut use your hand on the shock and twist it off quicker.

This is how I'm used to doing it on other vehicles. You should just be able to turn the shock body rite?

So, I got the shocks off.. for the most part. Both shocks sheared at the top of the stud. About 1/2 the threads came off with the nut. However, for the TF lift kit with the shock extensions, the extensions just screw on to the top of the stud. There seems like there's enough thread left to safely mate into the extension. Am I crazy or is this OK?

I had the same thing happen to one of mine. Just to be safe, I welded the extension base to the hex part of the shaft. Its held up great thru a lot of wheeling with plenty of wheel lifts.
