well .5" is quite a bit when you talk about a lift... however, the difference in price for that half inch is quite significant as you said, although price is really not an issue, i was mainly concerned on the install, and the performance.
Price difference isn't an issue if you get the Rough Country 2.5" lift for $139. Puts it right in line with all the other 2.0" BB lifts. I'm very happy with mine and it looks great even on the stock 32" tires. Add some 33's or 35's (like I am) and it is a pretty killer package for the price.

The rough country lift Creeps me out that it says not for offroad use on the web site. The TFBB is all over this site and looks like people wheel the hell out of it. I'd really think hard about going with the TFBB if you plan on wheeling hard.
Do I have any info on the Rough Country? YES. I have the Rough Country lift on my Jeep. It says on the website that they don't recommend heavy off road use with 35" tires, NOT that they don't recommend off road use. The 2.5" lift was designed to be flexed out with 33's, but you can run 35's if you don't plan on rock crawling. I live in Florida, so there isn't exactly a ton of rock crawling to be had. I couldn't be happier with the lift, and the result was fantastic.
i guess it depends on your ride. i have a rubi so i just had the intentions of not bangin my muffler and fuel tank all over the place, i just went with the 2". i orderd the black diamond, didnt have any problems with the install and everything has held up fine.
