Default Help me pick an Atlus Tcase please

I am looking for a good ratio to get for my Atlus Tcase upgrade. I want an all around gearing ratio that will give me a good foundation for Rock crawling, trail riding and some beach driving.

I was looking at the 4:3:1 and know that it would be great for rocks and trails but I have heard that a really low ratio would not be good in sand?

If that were true would I benefit from the 2:0:1?

Opinions and reasons would be helpful since I get lost in the gearing issues..

Thanks

Assuming you have an automatic.

Have you considered the Rubicrawler? I see you have an X model and assume you still have the 231 t-case. This would get you 3 ratios. 1:1, 2.72:1, and 7.4:1.

2.72:1 is a nice ratio for steep sections and helps the tranny not work so much when climbing and aids decents. For rocks the 7.4:1 would be rad.

Just saying.

I've heard great things about the Rubi Crawler as well. It's no atlas but its also about half the price and 7.4:1 is serious slow for crawling. I wish they made one for a 6 speed.

I'd think the 2.0:1 would be good for sand or just higher speed 4 wheel drive. The 4.3 would be good for rocks. I know our 1:1 4-hi sucks on sand, and my rubi 4:1 is a little to torquey. It'd be nice to have a middle ground.

7.4 from the rubi crawler is very steep. Your top speed will only be like 10mpg which fine when you're actually on the rocks, but between obsticles that can be kinda slow.

I am thinking I would usually only do trails and rocks but due to living in Fl, the beach may be an occasional trip. I am thinking the 4:1 would be ok for some general driving on sand and a few dunes?

That way I have a 4:1 for my primary crawling needs.

Pricing out buying a stock Tcase and the rubi crawler puts me over the cost of an atlus 4:1.

So you are saying you don't have a 4 wheel drive Jeep and no transfer case now?

The Rubicrawler will work with the 2.71:1 or 4:1 transfer case. It is not just for a Rubicon.

A Rubicrawler is around $1600 vs an Atlas 2 speed which would be about $2300.

Not sure why you think you would need another oem transfer case.

If you read the thread he said he is doing a 2wd to 4wd drive conversion. He has no transfer case at this time.
