Help me with why tire width makes a difference and which wheel
Ok, so my question becomes, what tire width should I go with. My 07 rubicon is stock now (bought on 1-16-10). We want to change wheels now and do a lift and 35's later.
We are digging the Pro Comp 7089 black alloys but dont know if we should do the 17X8 or the 17x9. The Jeep will be off road on the weekends at a beach that is the consisancy of very fine, loose, dry sand.
I like the looks of a 13.50 tire but will the stock Rubi tires go back on the 9 until the tires wear down and we are ready to lift and change tires? Or will the 35X13.50 go on an 8?
We probably wont ever be airing down and "crawling". This is my daily driver.
Any thoughts? Thank you for the help.

Also if you do loose sand, you'll want to air down. Having an 8in wide rim on wide tires is like a poor man's beadlock, less chance of popping the bead aired down, and again, you'll want to air down in sand
Then later I can do a 4 inch lift with 35X13.50s.
I am trying to wait about another year or so for my daughter to be able to climb into the car seat before lifting it.

X2.
JKs require wheels with a maximum of ~4.5" of backspacing with tires that are 12.5" or wider. On an 8" rim this still provides at least 1/2" of offset. If you use rims that are 9" wide, that is close to 0 offset.
Look at the recommended range of rim widths for the tires you are considering. The wider rims will improve road handling by straightening the sidewalls at the expense of a stiffer ride, while the narrower widths will flex the sidewalls which will provide a more compliant ride and will protect the wheels offroad.
Regardless of the backspacing changing the offset from positive (stock JK wheels) to neutral or negative will change the loading on the axle bearings which can shorten their durability.
Ask mkljeep stated the 8" wide wheels should work fine.
