Help with new jeep lift/tires
#21
lift and 35 37
Well if you want to go with the minimums, I would do a 2.5 lift and run 35 in tires, or 3 in and run 37 inch tires. In either case, you should take a Re Gear without waiting too long. I think the Gears cost 700 for a set front and back together plus install say 1400?? not sure, and for Lockers 1400 plus install or 3000 installed but not sure?? Maybe go with one locker in rear. JDJ

Another thing to consider is if you go with 37" tires you will not be able to fit the fifth tire on the stock tailgate carrier. A new bumper with tire carrier will be about $1000.
There are several reasons I suggested the 2.5" budget boost and 35s. The JKs are still new and a lot of new lifts and parts will be coming out in years to come. The 2.5" lift with 35" tires will make your jeep big enough to have to "climb" into it and will give you a chance to figure out if you want to go with a bigger setup. Also, there are a lot of us running 35s with the stock 4:10 gears, and although they slow down the jeep, the 4:10s still work fine on the highway.

ok guys i think i have decided to go with 6 in lift and 37's now i know i need to regear and upgrade my drive line will it hurt anything if i do that stuff first and then eventullay do the lift and a 37s later. will it hurt it running it on stock tires with the new gears of 5.13 ?

I've never run 5.13's, but my bet is that gearing with stock tires will have your engine revving way above its optimum range. Hopefully someone with more gear-changing experience will weigh in.

Wow, in the original post you were looking for how big you could go without "major mods." A 6" lift, new gears and new axels count as major mods in my book. Good luck though.

You could get a 4" lift with 36" tires and keep the stock axles and gears.
There isn't a "right" way to modify your jeep. Most people change their minds about mods all the time.
I still think a 2.5" lift with 35s will be the best way to go.
