Don't count out the lift with 33s. I've been running 33s w/o a lift and it does look a little crowded. Trimming your fenders can add space and save you some cash that you may want to use for a lift. A lift will help to counter the sag you will get with the heavy tire carrier and a winched front bumper. truth is you can run 33s with just about any setup but if you want to rock crawl then you will need some room for your wheels to travel.

suicideking: thanks for evo suggestion, I'll have to check into that. I also agree with not sleeving till 37. I like the look and function of flat's and think 2.5 lift with 33's would look funny. I have seen pics of guys with similar set ups and its not for me. Definitely functional though. I wanted to go with flats as well bc that keeps from messing with dealers and the magnusson act when they try to void warranty for lift. Thanks for great info/suggestions.

bonedoc: what is DTD

Jesse: I agree with your theory about function....for the most part. I was looking at flat's again to keep from lifting, and I think its cheaper. I had a 4" in my '04 and that is the single biggest reason for getting the 2012. It was NOT a DD. Kicked butt offroad though. I would get agitated just driving to work not being able to drink my coffee because it was so rough (on main roads in DFW, tx).

suicideking/jesse: I was going with the xrc front for cosmetics mainly, but like the winch and KC light combo option. The rear was for function though. Do you think the xrc tirecarrier would hold up with 37's attached? Is there a company that makes a better product with virtually the same design? I will probably go mostly with metal cloak armor though. heard/read alot of good things about them.

Thanks again for all the input
Just thought to share my preference in armor: poyson spyder customs. They make some amazing looking and highly durable armor. They also have options to go aluminum on body armor if your less concerned about performance and more interested in looks with a lighter weight. I do believe they are a bit higher on price for some product, but I say their welds are as much of an art form as they are made for durability and overall quality. If you fall in love with their product you may just need to start pimping out your sister to afford it all -- don't take that personally.

Anyhow...I'm a fairly new Jeep owner and I feel your passion and what will be your pain in charting all these great mods with amazing product. I like your systematic approach of slicing it all up into a solid and viable gameplay for years of execution. You'll be busy and happy the whole way through.

Best of luck and keep this thread alive as a journal of you upgrades along the way. I look forward to seeing your build.

I think those red evo skids would look good on mine also because my jeep is red. I like the gate, not that could see it with a tire. Not in it completely for looks over functionality but I'd be lying if I said it was no factor.

Ive read about guys having full flex with 33's on no lift with front/rear bumpers, sliders and winch. To do this they had to have a coil length from the factory that I can't remember at the moment. I think the last two digits on the coil was 16 or 17. If they had different they had to upgrade coils (not coil lifts) to account for added weight.

Desert snow: I have looked at poison spyder and as far as flares go, they are to skinny for me. I like the 8in option that still has the 2-3 in lip that drops in the front. Don't remember the rears, but if they have the armor with flares like the ones offered by metal cloak I may have to go with two different brand of flares. I think they gave the 4in back part of the rear flare (metal cloaks is tapered)which is what I want. As I said in previous posts, this rig will see lots of different states and I don't want to get pulled over because my tires stick out too far.

I don't own the front or rear PSC Crusher
Flares (yet), but I recall the rears have less coverage towards the back and it tapers considerably. The fronts, however, have coverage close to the factory fenders.

Are you considering the metal cloak flares that unbolt...release?

You may want to check the evo website. I don't have the skids but my buddy does. They are black. I am fairly sure the discription on the evo site says they are red for demo purposes and the actual product is black. It's a lot easier to show what a customer is getting by painting it red. Here is a link of some being installed. I thought the red ones would look really cool but oh well. To bad it isn't an option.

Sorry , DTD is Discount Tire Direct. They are one of the forum sponsoring vendors and I believe they also give a forum discount.

Correct. I have the set, they only come in black. Red is just to showcase them as mentioned.

I also got Evo LCA skids, sleeve and gussets. Riddler front diff cover, PSC rear. You can't go wrong with armor considering what you pay and how much it can save you vs. breaking something that wasn't protected. Even more important if you don't lift because of less ground clearance.

Here's what the Evo 3 piece skid looks like:

Default Amazed that nobody mentioned WINCH

Don forget a winch. That should be the first thing you do if you plan on using the Jeep as a Jeep. If the most action it see's is a trips between Wal Mart and the Car Wash, then I guess you could overlook a need for a winch and get all of those other cosmetic things.

Not sure yet. The appearance and function of the taper is awesome but I need coverage, unless anyone knows more specifics pertaining to laws about tire width. I think tx is 3-4 inches outside needs mud flaps. Or how far the tires stick out the side with 12.5 wide tires on4.5-5 in offset. like the extra armor along the rear quarter, but I don't do enough hard core crawling to justify the need to take them off. If they offer the armor with the detachable flares as an option I'll opt for the cheaper of the two.
